Allah save the Iranians from the “the brutal, theocratic, human rights-violating Iranian regime”

Our daughter went to Iran with her husband’s family about 15 years ago. Saw no sign of unrest that was in the news at thwart time.
They didn’t dare taKe her to their native Iraq at the time.
51
These woke Western tourists think Iran is so wonderful but the woke woman doesn’t complain about the hijab she is forced to wear and they don’t see or experience the torture or killing of dissidents etc..
And has everyone forgotten about the case of the Australian academic held in Iranian jail for 804 days?
Or virgin women/girls who are raped before execution.
It’s all very well to be a naive and woke Western tourist. The reality for the people who live there or who disagree with the regime is quite different.
And has anyone seen old pictures of Iran before the Ayatollah’s took over? Women are free and allowed to dress in standard Western style etc..
The case of homosexuality in Iran is interesting. In most Mohammedan countries they are executed such as by thrown off buildings and even in Iran they have been hanged, not by the Western method of being dropped to break the neck but slowly hoisted up by a rope leading to a long agonising death. But in Iran they are given an option, instead of hanging they can undergo transgender procedures, which is more or less the approach in the West where the Left strongly encourages transgenderism.
https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-29832690
Naturally the Left who pretend to care about human rights are silent. Red-Green Alliance.

… or that wives/daughters are literally the property of their husbands/fathers and cannot make life decisions on their own without permission of a male guardian.
They talk about all the women who can get degrees in Iran and that is true. What they don’t tell you is that they have to have permission from their husband/father in order to go to school. If hubby or dad say ‘no dice’, it’s barefoot and pregnant for you little lady. Fortunately, Iranian Muslim men tend not to be huge patriarchal jerks like Muslim men from many Arab/African states, so lots of women do wind up going to school. But it still bullcrap that women are treated like children who can’t direct their own lives.

I’m sure many of them would, Ponzi.
But don’t make up quotes.
00
Yes, who could forget Kylie Moore-Gilberts? Certainly not the Australian government, which could forget Julian Assange for over a decade.
If one doesn’t like the Islamic religion, why pick on Iran? Do women or homosexuals have it any better in Saudi Arabia? Is Saudi Arabia a democracy? What about the other Gulf States?
And are things so great in the “liberal” democracies? Others may point to rampant abortions, child sex changes against parental consent, and encroaching censorship as equally morally reprehensible.
I just get tired of the old left/right distraction when the reality is that the 0.1% own 99% of the world’s wealth and own both left and right.

DM,
In June 1978 I spent some weeks in Tehran as relieving manager for a large contract we had for aerial geophysical survey of 15% or so of the country of Iran (Persia).
The ladies were preparing for a transition from religious garb to jeans and blouses and sneakers and hairdos. Almost all the women I met were enjoying it. Once, my cab driver got lost (there were no street names or maps) and asked a 30 y old gal with black head and lower face cover for directions. She hissed at him to go away, she did not want a beating for talking to strange men.
There was already civil unrest to dethrone the Shah, which happened a few months later.
The Iran I remember had lovely people, especially beautiful women of courting age with lovely eyes. Then one morning our tame General called us together to say that 6 Korean workers were executed in public the previous evening for trying to be too friendly with a couple of these lovely girls. Should have seen the young single pilots present undergo immediate de-tumescence.
We simply could not imagine the horrors of the subsequent government by a succession of mad Mullahs. My vote goes to anyone with a sensible plan for immediate regime change. Forget about Trump Derangement Syndrome, this President is noted for success with the implementation of plain common sense remedies for large problems like this one.
Soon, please. These lovely Iranians need a period of years of smelling the roses instead of the rank stench of political oppression on a scale of 10. Like Australia is headed for. Geoff S

America has wanted to purchase Greenland several times since 1867.

Rowjay,
Maybe the meaningful difference between President Trump and other leaders is simple. He talks about what can or should be done. Others mostly blab on about what cannot or should not be done.
Is this too simple?
Do readers agree?
If not, what is wrong with the hypothesis?

… and before Big Sugar their grubby little mitts into everything we eat.
One more change I would like to see is a redefinition of what constitutes ‘bread’. One thing you consistently hear from Europeans when they visit America is how sweet bread is in America, so much so that they compare it to cake. I rarely agree with Euros on anything (especially when it comes to America’s flaws), but they are spot on here. What passes for bread in America is LOADED with sugar, and helps to explain why so many Americans struggle with blood sugar related issues.

On Their ABC-RN (Australia) I heard about 20 mins ago a journalist describe the Iranian regine as “brutal” and didn’t complain about TRUMP’s likely bombing of military targets in Iran.
I don’t know their name but they preceded John Lyons, a reporter with severe TDS.
I don’t think that reporter will have a very long career with ABC if he keeps saying true things like how brutal the Iranian regime is which is totally against the Leftist narrative.
161
David Maddison,
Maybe the word has gone out at the ABC. Last night I was surprised to see them broadcasting Simon Schama: The Road to Auschwitz. Immediate thought was that this was aired as penance for their part in the Bondi massacre.

Recently viewed this UTube clip about the development of the SR71 Blackbird. What struck me was the intense frictional heat developed when travelling at this speed in the atmosphere.
Fast forward to the hypersonic missile technology currently under development. How do they keep explosive payloads cool enough to not “cook off”?
Looking at videos of the recent Oreshnick strike on Lviv, there were no explosions when the ballistic warheads hit the ground. Where the Russians firing blanks?
40
They use thermal protection materials like the Space Shuttle (carbon/carbon in nose) and active cooling, using the liquid hydrocarbon fuel for cooling before it goes to the scramjet engine (like the SR-71 did before burning in its turbo ramjet) for sustained hypersonic flight.
Also, ballistic missiles are hypersonic but only use thermal protection but no active cooling as their re-entry phase is brief.
Australia is working on a joint project with the US on testing and integrating the United States Air Force’s Hypersonic Attack Cruise Missile (HACM) with its F/A-18F. https://www.australiandefence.com.au/defence/air/hypersonic-attack-cruise-missile-to-be-integrated-on-raaf-super-hornets

They explained it as “a kinetic weapon”, that is – Oreshnick’s nuclear warheads were not deployed.

From G-AI
So no explosives in the warheads – thanks V.
20

Around the arrival of that first Oreshnik there were reports that the Russians had developed a new form of explosive that incorporated metal and allowed the explosive to be a structural component of the warhead. I haven’t noticed anything more on that recently.

It’s not science if it can’t be replicated, and it can’t be replicated if the data/methodology is not shared. The hiding of data/methodology is when science began to morph into ‘the science‘. I blame Michael Mann and his f’king hockey stick. While I’m sure he wasn’t the first fraud to hide his data, he was the first I can recall that had the entire scientific establishment line up behind him and support his decision to keep his ‘science‘ inside an impregnable black box.

Heard a joke yesterday, on a 1418th day of Russia-Ukraine war.
The number is important because for couple of generation it was extolled by soviet propaganda, like – “it took 1418 days of unsurpassed heroism to finish Nazi Germany” …
So, the joke : In 1418 days Colonel of KGB could not finish off Captain of KVN.
Save you a minute of Google searching – in soviet time Zelensky was a captain of that student show troop.
50
Yeah, it’s got to sting for old Vladimir to see the Bad Orange Man’s military pull off a head-of-state snatching in less time than it takes to watch a football game, while his troops are on day 1418 of failure to get rid of Zelensky.
On the flip side, it drives home just how ridiculous all the European fearmongering over Big Bad Vlad overrunning Europe is. The Russian military couldn’t even get 100 miles into Ukraine before getting stopped stone-cold, but we’re supposed to worry about them making a Wehrmacht style Blitzkrieg all the way to Paris or Amsterdam? Ninja please. If Putin didn’t know that his military has almost no ability to project power outside his borders before, he sure does now.
Even if he rebuilds the military, that’s going to take a decade or more, and he’s an old man. Will he be leading his expansionist war in Europe from an assisted living facility? We already saw how useless a government run by spent old men are in the 1980s in the USSR and 2021-2024 in the USA. Putin’s days of being scary ended when Ukraine stuffed his offensive in the first couple weeks and managed to push him back with their first counter-offensive, and he’ll be even less scary when he is a doddering old man.
42
Yes it almost like the decade in Afghanistan doesnt exist isnt it? a masterpeice of false equivalence
20
America learned it’s lesson. No more 20th century style full-scale invasions, and no more occupations. Everything these days is special operations raids that get in and get out within hours.
00
Your conclusion may be very correct, Steve.
a) The ancient rocket parts shown today are actually remnants of the Dnepro strike more than a year ago. It is OK, both sides use bend the truth.
b) Why is it important – that 5500 km range rocket was built as IRBM (remember 1987 Gorbachev-Reagan Treaty? ) so there must be some left in the storage…
There is one blogger who, with data in hand, rejects Ukrainian claims that Russians deliberately aim at ordinary city blocks, ie – large number of Ukrainian civilian deaths is mainly due to low accuracy of Russian weapons. Everyone saw the Katyusha salvo – very effective psychological weapon, not aimed at anything in particular. Being a sworn Putin’s enemy he only said once or twice.
Clearly, both sides in this war utilise all their technical ingenuity to compensate the shortage of “normal” ammunition. Probably IRBM design target was a city, not a single LNG storage, even a huge one.
20
Ah, the good old BM-21 / Katyusha or whatever its latest incarnation is”
When a battery of them cuts loose, it is pointless worrying about “the one with your name on it”.
It is more about the truckloads of rockets labeled: “To whom it may concern”.
Saturation bombardment for area-denial.
By the same token, the soft-skinned launch and logistic trucks are VERY distinctive. So is the spectacular fire and smoke signature of a mass launch.. If the launchers are NOT driving away, FAST, while their cargo is still being “delivered”, counter-battery artillery fire can be expected.

Sick of using the state based government apps to check bushfire activity? Dump eg. Vic Emergency and get Bushfire.io app. It’s heaps better because it’s satellite based and has weather etc overlays. Plus, it tracks heat plumes, so you can note the fire activity. You can even track the fixed wings and rotarys dumping water on the outbreaks. People working in government eg DEECA use it in preference to Vic Emergency. It works all over Australia and the world. Heaps better.
