Another new UK June record, not sure of the final figure, 36.7C in Somerset so far.
New record minimum, Cardiff over 23C.
Jersey reached 39.3C but it’s part of British Isles, not classified as a UK site.
My coastal town again broke it’s all time record (long term good quality site). Now 35.5C

My bramley apples fried and ruined on the sunward side yesterday, brown rot set in and ripped through the lot overnight. That’s a first.. Just heat and humidity I guess.

Lived here US mid-Atlantic east coast for forty years.
This past winter was the coldest I’ve ever experienced.
About 1.5 to 2 feet of snow followed by weeks of single digit temps.
Hard ice snow pack making digging out very difficult.
      Grocery procurement became an issue.
The city constructed a semi-trailer size snow pile in front of my house.
Front loaders and dump trucks came in to haul it away.
I actually saw a city snow plow salt truck stuck in the ice even on a down hill incline.
A front loading tractor had to come and pull it out.

Feel like another like it could be the end of me.
Tough guy me used to make fun of old folk fleeing to Florida in the winter.

Spring is the mildest I can remember.
One are two hot days in June but so far quite pleasant.
Even light jacket cool some mornings.

I don’t know if records were set, but I doubt we would hear much about counter narrative record setting.

Out west had the mildest winter since 1971. But that’s the way it works in N. America. When east of the Rockies are catching it, the Rockies and west have mild winters. When it’s mild east of the Rockies, the Rockies and west catch it. It’s the Geography.

Certainly not, more a way to see out winter without having to venture to the store. It’s rumoured that pemmican was the original superfood, I guess you may not be allowed to make it anyway as it would be considered “cultural appropriation “. Better look a bit harder into your heritage to see if you have high cheek bones and maybe a relative can say way back in time great great great so and so was known to cavort with the locals. Enjoy summer, here in the low part of the high country, fog bound and windless for over a week, the proposed new 700 acre solar farm is still on the cards.

Due to reduction in pollution england gets 11% more sun than in the 70’s the sun is also much brighter and more intensive as pollution no longer masks it.

The built area of England is twice what it was 50 years ago so the urban heat island effect is very real. As you know this means the built environment absorbs then radiates the heat, making for warmer nights.

Temperatures then start the day from a higher base. Add in that most weather stations are automatic so capture instant heat spikes and it is not surprusing to see records on what has admittedly been a very warm spell.

If it was just as warm 50 years ago (1976) what’s all the panic about – broken and ‘smashed’ records are, indeed, wholly man-made (inventions) called creative accounting in other circles.

Place a handkerchief over yer noggin, open a warm beer, lay back and think of Camilla or Elton or Freddy or whoever your preferred ‘queen’ of the moment is. /s

As an aside, a counterbalance if you will, WINTER arrived in the antipodes yesterday with sub-zero temps & snowfalls & gales closing highways & airports & ferry terminals: we can only dream of 35 degrees in middle of road!

There is much ado about NYC Mandami backed ‘socialists’ knocking off established Democrats in the primaries here in the US.
    What is happening?
As a service to JoNova readers I shall explain.
    You’re welcome.

Mandami is sort of a Democrat Trump.
The feckless, corrupt Dem/Repub uniparty has fattened and inbred itself to impending extinction.
On top of this, we have an educational system that has for decades, produced almost nothing but whacked out social justice radicals.
With a growing population of men that have become birthing persons.
    That can now vote.

Whether traditional, or liberal minded, voters are choosing other.
The Repubs were already too weak to stop Trump.
The Dems are now too weak to stop the boutique parlor bourgeois Cosplay revolutionaries.

So the overlaying issue is the intellectual inbreeding of the educated managerial classes … probably worldwide.
Which is the reason this blog exist.
We came here because we were watching it unfold.
To commune with others who noticed the problem and were trying to figure what the Hell was happening.

    Bumpy roads ahead.
Especially since the political leadership is longer emotionally capable of organizing a two car funeral, much less maintaining roads and bridges.(1)
Which has forced industry into buying its’ own power generating capabilities.
A government that once built highways and hydro electric damns, is now busy organizing Pride Month.

Then again, my government is still really good at the execution of kinetic policy. (2)
    I can’t explain everything.

    (1) They don’t want us to have cars.
    (2) I did not say to what end or make judgement concerning success.
    I’m just talking ordinance delivery.

I hope you’re right, but I don’t think you are.
Most 30 year olds don’t know what the Cold War was.
Even worse they have even less knowledge of the the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution.
On top of that, their only concept of actual ‘social’ revolution comes from the movies where the handsome ‘good’ guy and his hot girlfriend overcome overwhelming odds and survive.
These, not historical and political reality inform the worldview of spoiled Western youth.
And the entire faculties and staff of the Ivy League.

        Remember Bill de Blasio?
He is right wing compared to the new crew.

Perhaps you should ponder the reason that particular satire is ‘good’, and allow it to inform your views.
Particularly in regards to socialism and what could happen to certain populations if ‘DoorDash’ is unavailable.

BTW, Mamdani’s new friend that will be become a US Congressperson, has called for the confiscation of ‘all property’.
So your characterization of what face is now on display is historically inaccurate.

One definitive result of ‘socialism’ is the death of the pleasures of satire and sarcasm because the Left lack the cognitive ability recognize the significance of either.

Here we go! Adopting failed Cuban policies, which are just failed Communist policies from the days of the USSR, Labor is going to set the price of food for us! Expect the supermarkets to look like 1990s Russian ones…

“Coles and Woolies are being banned from price-gouging…it applies when items are sold for an amount that “is significantly excessive when compared to the cost to the very large retailer of the supply, plus a reasonable margin”.”

At least the SMH had the balls to query ‘significantly excessive’ and the reasonable margin, rather than just back the Left to the hilt as usual.

Of course the new law will employ a significant but non-excessive new number of bureaurats to police the ‘private’ industry, so its a win-win all round!

Grocery stores make tiny profits. Tesco for instance manages to make about 3% on its ultra efficient operation.

The only reason these new stores can operate is because rent and rates etc will be paid by the general taxpayer.

Those shops not subsidised will presumably be unable to compete and go out of business thereby causing job losses and reduction in the taxes they pay.

How is that a Good thing?

This has echoes of soviet times

‘How is that a Good thing?’

At the bottom of the story we see objections to the scheme. These stores won’t go into competition with the local operations, they will only be selling what the others don’t.

‘This has echoes of soviet times.’

Karl Marx predicted the fall of capitalism would come with a revolution, but he was totally wrong. China embraced capitalism with gusto and it morphed into socialism with Chinese characteristics.

“as that is what people want to buy.”
Not quite Tonyb. For decades the supermarkets have narrowed their range to products that maximise profits, people get what they are given and without access to other sources of supply quickly forget items that used to be available. Look at tomatoes for instance, uniform, tough skinned long shelf life varieties, nothing like older different heritage styles.

    …and… THIS didn’t take long!

“Anthony Albanese has flagged a fresh tightening of the country’s world-first social media restrictions, ”

In the good ol’ days there would be a reasonable period between the new laws and the mission creep, but the public have displayed such stupidity that the Govt no longer care.

Obviously the social media companies are not asking enough people for an internet ID, so the pressure will increase.

..and there’s nothing makes a ‘leader’ more proud that being able to one-up the others at an international conference.

“Albanese said Australia had led the world with its under-16 social media ban, claiming another 16 countries were now pursuing similar approaches.

    The Net Zero Lunacy Continues

    Air Conditioning? It’s Illegal!

Britain is in even worse shape

From the Telegraph: “Air conditioning torn from homes under net zero clampdown.”

Homeowners are being forced to tear out air conditioning from their private properties under climate laws, despite rising temperatures.

Council planning officers ordered residents to remove air-con units over fears they produce too much carbon dioxide, stating they should only be used as a “last resort”.

The net zero clampdown is part of building regulations that state “active cooling” should only ever be allowed when all other means of “passive cooling”, such as opening windows or using fans, have been exhausted.

So whether you can air condition your home is not up to you, it is up to left-wing busybodies.

In one of a string of cases uncovered by The Telegraph, a resident living in North London was forced to “permanently remove” two air-con units from the back of their [sic] home.

Planning inspectors working for Camden council said there was “no justification” for the air-con units and that they failed to comply with the local authority’s so-called “cooling hierarchy”.

In an appeal, the resident was told to open the windows and balcony doors of their first-floor flat to ventilate the property “by natural means”.

Their concerns about security were dismissed, with inspectors saying the risk was not “as great as those associated with ground floor windows” and that the windows could be shut at night.

Yes, you might be robbed or murdered, but your carbon footprint will be smaller!

    These people are completely crazy.

Camden council planning inspectors made “particular note” of the “absence of ceiling fans” in their home, even though it was not listed as a requirement.

Liberals want people to be miserable. (Other people, not them.)

but..but… I heard that heat kills people and if we don’t eliminate CO2 we will have thousands dying from the warming globe.. We need aircon to stay alive!

The average punter does not keep their mind on the items which are regularly purchased. And subsequently stocked up when on sale. Nor are the prices compared between the two majors and the random IGA/Aldi sales during the weekly shopping.
My regular items will be on sale at least once every two months. Even if it is just the seniors discount (5% on Wednesdays) day at the local IGA. eg long life milk.
