Personally I think the ABC is as dumb and useless as Bowen. What a farce, both the minister and the extreme left mob at their ABC are the ones who would make a rock look highly intelligent. Thank goodness now for Apple TV so many of us no longer have to watch British drama on that channel. Never go near it now. As for Bowen, the rate he is throwing our money at renewables he may end up the most hated lefty in the country if our country goes bust!

Interesting. First news I’ve seen about damaged solar panels due to recent hailstorm. What about large-scale solar systems? Were any damaged? What about possible leakage of toxic chemicals from large-scale solar systems into the surrounding soil?

In approx. 2012, Perth experienced a similar hailstorm that destroyed many cars. But I didn’t hear of any stories about damages to tile roofs, and Perth used to have a lot of tile roofs. Not many solar panels around then, thankfully.

Little Perth hail. Not big Brisbane hail. We were so impressed that we froze a couple in the storm of 1967. There were definitely as big as cricket balls and a lot heavier.
They come from around 20km up to get that size. Definitely a case of convective overshoot. Heads well above commercial aircraft at full altitude.
Teracotta hold up better than cement under impact but I have seen damage on both.

Umm, no. Look at the news for 22 March 2010. It was WA’s costliest natural disaster, with over $1bn in insurance claims. The hail was the same size as the recent ones. I have plenty of photos of it, plus the large holes punched through all the car’s windscreens and rear windows. The holes were tennis ball size. Some car yards had to scrap all their cars. In most cases, car panels had to be replaced as the damage was extensive. I was lucky as I went home early and missed all the damage.

There is the cost of the clothes line and the land where it sits. There is the effort and time lugging the clothes to the line, hanging them up and bringing them in again. Bringing this up not to rekindle debate with Johnny Rotten, but because it’s quite similar to the blind spot some solar panel owners have about their setups. The solar power seems free, but they have paid in advance (with the taxpayer chipping in) for the panels and their installation; they’re faced with the ongoing cleaning, increased insurance costs, and increased worry about hailstorms, etc.

It is mostly the pure electricity consumers that do not have solar panels chipping in.
True consumers get hit twice. The government issues STCs to householders for the solar panels, which the householder sells to retailers (usually this is done by the installer). The cost of the STCs are added to the retail price of electricity.
The second hit is the cost of essential generation. The fuel cost for a coal plant is negligible compared with the other costs. In fact turning it up and down adds cost. Running a coal plant flat out could give an average power cost of say $40/MWh. Running it at 50% capacity gives average cost around $100/MWh. At 30% it is more like $200/MWh. Around that level it is better to shut the coal down and use gas.
This means the true consumer pays a retail margin for the rooftop STCs, grid scale LGCs and all the full costs of the coal plant spread across much less demand.
It is only in the last year or so that taxpayer funds are going directly to support the new investment and rebates. Mainly because the remaining pure consumers are buckling under the high cost of grid electricity.

Apparently dairy farmers in Denmark have to use a food additive called Bovaers on their herds. A methane reduction measure. This being a government mandated , safe and effective, dosing regime you can probably guess what has happened.
Yep, the Danish dairy herd has become sickly , up to and including animals dying, which is a very expensive problem in EU farming terms.
Government is silent and experts are baffled. Cows and livelihoods continue to die.

Dairy farmers in Denmark are reporting widespread health issues in their herds, including reduced milk production, collapse, and deaths, following the mandatory use of the methane-reducing feed additive Bovaer, which has been required since October 1, 2025.
The National Association of Danish Dairy Producers has launched an investigation into the reports, with farmers noting that symptoms disappeared when the additive was removed and returned upon reintroduction.
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has acknowledged the concerns and requested further research from Aarhus University.
The additive Bovaer, containing 3-nitrooxypropanol, is designed to inhibit methane production in cows’ rumen and was approved by the European Commission in 2022.
Farmers have reported cows suffering from fevers, diarrhea, mastitis, and severe rumen distension, with some animals requiring euthanasia.
The Danish government mandated the use of Bovaer for dairy farms with more than 50 cows starting in January 2025, with non-compliance leading to fines.
Despite the European Food Safety Authority stating the additive poses no risk to cow health, farmers and some experts are raising concerns about its safety and long-term effects.
The National Association of Danish Dairy Producers has called for a “timeout” on the additive to allow for further investigation and to ensure animal welfare.

Crack an egg into a small bowl.
Peel a clove of garlic and rub along your fingertips for 5-10 seconds.
Using your fingertips, pinch the yolk of the egg right in the centre and pull up.
Once the yolk completely separates from the white, transfer the yolk to the second bowl.

My mother back in the 60’s or early 70’s used to have a plastic gizmo that did the same thing separating the egg yolk from the whites. From the video that looks to be much more efficient for multiple eggs in a restaurant but for a family of four I think my mothers plastic gizmo was much simpler and worked better.
