Abbreviations Page

I’ve added a page with a list of abbreviations, there’s a link to it in the sidebar on the top right. If you are looking for an abbreviation and can’t find it, or have a correction to make, please comment here so we can improve the page.

The “find things” list at the top right is becoming more organized and useful. (Yes, the social events page needs to be updated).

Find things

Thanks to both Bob, Rob and Barry who compiled the list. Sorry it’s taken so long to get it finished.

How to turn an interesting Blog into a serious resource.

The definition of “Ionosphere” is wrong?

Could we have some definitions as well, such as:

Modelling: A pastime engaged by some hobbyists in which they glue together replicas of old temperatures and proxy records, paint rosy pictures on the final structure and invite journalists in to admire their work.

    or

Recycling: The act of digging up a global catastrophe scare that hasn’t been aired for some time and feeding it to gullible journalists

Need to add CAGW for the “robust” version of AGW. Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming. There is subtle but important distinction.

Ionosphere is now called the thermosphere. Why? don’t know. There is also a meso and strato between the Iono/thermo and the tropo.

I’ve added in some of the more common web acroymns like lol imho roflmao to the abbreviations page.

Let me know if I’ve missed any. In a way I’d prefer people don’t use too many of these because it makes it just that much harder for newcomers to follow the conversation, but having said that, I slip a few in myself. Sometimes, they’re useful.

BTW: Thanks to Doug and Wes, I forgot to mention that I fixed the ionosphere line (how did that get in there?) very soon after you commented. I meant to say thanks.

Rick – I like it! Maybe we can do up a page just for these? There must be dozens more 😉

The pressing question of the era is, of course, how come ROFL and ROFLMAO drop the T from ROTF? the mysteries never stop;)
