Barclays Sounds the Alarm on Renewable Energy
From Tilak’s Substack
Tilak Doshi
An interesting twist on Renewable Energy advocates Stranded Assets argument:
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2026/03/12/barclays-sounds-the-alarm-on-renewable-energy/
220
Oh dear, you mean they’re shocked to learn that renewable energy doesn’t work?
Maybe they can console themselves with the 16 trillion they extracted from a naive tax base with lies.
And use their new AI toy to convince the taxpayers it was just a mistake.
‘Standard Assets’ my patootie.
Just the same ages old hustlers with fancy pedigrees that taught them the fine art of obfuscation with clever terms.
This is not to suggest that Public Health officials are not all about Public Health.
190
Exactly. It didn’t matter to them if RE worked or not, they were just going to jump on the band wagon and reap as much cash and virture signaling rewards for as lomg as it would last. Wealth Transfer from the middle class to the wealthy.
160
That should read … ‘Stranded Assets’ my patootie.
My asset was stranded by spell check and dyslexia.
150
How smart is it if Artificial Intelligence means doubling CO2 output and halving the lifespan of remaining and precious oil, gas and coal reserves. That’s not very clever at very great expense.
100
Oh, the irony: https://www.betootaadvocate.com/people-whove-railed-the-hardest-against-renewable-energy-the-angriest-about-fuel-crisis/
220
” the guys who’ve spent decades trying to stop the country having alternative fuel sources and energy security are the ones banging on about not potentially having fuel shortages and energy security. ”
Stupid article, the guys trying to stop the alternative wastes of time in energy were pushing hard for more oil and gas extraction for our security.

00
Much amusement, but out here in the bush we need diesel to run farm machinery.
171
If there is a fuel/food/energy crisis, it will derive from the fact that we will no longer be able to improve the EROEI of the renewable energy source that predates the advent of humanity by aeons.
I refer to the renewable energy that is the result of photosynthesis in the leaves of the green plants.
Not only is it renewable , it is also self-replicating.
Your apparent ire should rightly be re-directed to those who seek to limit this source of renewable energy.

Low level intellect humour that should be rejected by a first year Arts undergraduate. Very dopey.

Bumped from yesterday as posted late but Steve of Cornubia gave a very good reply.
Have you stocked up on your supplies yet?
—
The Australian Government has had decades to prepare for forthcoming fuel shortages and hence supply chain interruptions but has done nothing either for exploration for local oil sources or storage of imported oil. In fact oil exploration is banned in many places and even if permitted the red and green tape and land rights claims make the effort barely worthwhile.
The people will soon find our you cannot run a country on wind and solar, no matter how fanatical the commitment may be and how many EVs wokesters purchase.
181
It can reasonably be argued that successive governments have actually done a great deal to ensure that fuel shortages are forthcoming.
Their efforts have had some success.
180
And, like so many of the suicidal policies we find ourselves living under, it makes no sense because the consequences are ALL bad. Almost everything done by western governments recently appears designed to destroy our nations, economically and socially.
But why? I keep asking this. It’s not as if these awful policies won’t impact left and right pretty much equally – we’re all going down.
So why? I think old Sherlock provided good advice when he said, “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth,”
And the only possible motivation for all this is that they actually want to wreck western democracy, perhaps in the naive belief that they can rebuild it the way they want it.
Nothing else makes sense.

From today’s Australian
Frugal Germans are crossing into Poland to buy petrol as pump prices rise as a result of Iran choking off global oil supplies in retaliation for US-Israeli strikes. As of Wednesday, a litre of Super E10 petrol cost 2.01 euros ($2.30) and a litre of diesel 2.13 euros, according to the German Motorists’ Association ADAC — up about 15 and 24 percent on February levels. “I would have preferred to spend the money over there, rather than here,” he told AFP whilst filling his grey Opel Tigra at the pumps. “But you have to look after yourself.” Selling diesel at just 7.73 zlotys (1.81 euros), Joerg’s newly preferred petrol station can afford the lower prices thanks to the lower rates of VAT and fuel duty charged by the Polish government.
Hmmm? Where have I heard something about that last bit?

China orders immediate BAN on refined fuel exports – and it is Australia’s biggest supplier of jet fuel.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15641807/China-jet-fuel-export-halt.html
Cupla weeks left. She’ll be right mate, we’ll strap solar panels to trucks and deliver food to the supermarkets.
Don’t need no steenkin’ dinofuel.
120
Who knew that Australia’s jet fuel comes from China? No doubt substantially sourced from Iran (not now maybe) or Russia.
There is a lot of uncertainty with overseas (or even internal) travel from Australia now. Even if you can fly out, you mightn’t be able to get back because what airline would fly here knowing Australia has essentially no fuel reserves.
And no Chrissy Bowen (Australia’s Anti-energy Minister), international passenger aircraft CANNOT run on wind and solar electricity (he really is that stupid that he might think that). Maybe Unicorn flatulence if you synthesise the methane into Jet A-1 but we have no synthesis refining capacity or Unicorns.
110
There is a tanker currently moored in Westernport Bay name YUAN LIAN WAN, registered in China.
According to the Harbour Master website, unloading has been cancelled! What is the betting that it is carrying Jet Fuel?
https://portofhastings.vic.gov.au/shipping-ships-in-port
What sort of leverage does that give China over our Government?
30
The YUAN LIAN WAN is only a crude oil tanker.
In a cold war it would give them a lot of leverage to cut off jet fuel, unless we concede to certain demands.
30
Increasing the stock of fuels would be seen by their lefty mates as not supporting the intermittents that dot our countrysides.

It is interesting how aristocratic ‘woke’ inclusiveness of the socially marginalized co-exists with the arrogance of elite close minded intellectual class based exclusiveness.
By interesting I mean probably the prime signal in the decline of Western civilization.
Perhaps some as yet unimagined positives will arise, like in the aftermath of the real pandemic of 1347, as opposed to the fake pandemic of 2019.

FWIW – this morning’s Coffee and Covid gives the New York Times a reaming on its reporting of that Iranian school hit – the start
“You won’t believe how bad the Times was this time. It might as well be launching Iran’s missiles for it at this point. On Wednesday, the New York Times ran a treasonous story —the latest in a treacherous series— headlined, “U.S. at Fault in Strike on School in Iran, Preliminary Inquiry Says.” The strike is old news, still debated— but the Times just won’t let go of it, and the most horrifying part is everything else the moronic Times is deliberately ignoring.”
and then the detail
https://open.substack.com/pub/coffeeandcovid/p/mrs-magoo-friday-march-13-2026-c?

How silly.
Iran already has China , Russia, and possibly others helping it to launch its missiles.

It is not surprising for the NYT to be so anti-American and for the last decade or so anti-Trump.
What is surprising is that it is apparently profitable. I wonder exactly who or what is providing the revenue.
Somehow I suspect one of these funny money flows like the book deals used to reward the bad guys. That is for books which are never sold in other than vanishingly small numbers.

Childers get button hurt about anything that isn’t rah rah! USA! nationalism, and that includes reality going off script. He’s a good read for US internal goings on, internationally you may as well read Whitehouse press releases.
21
Haha! He can’t even apply the most used trope in all history… The end of all arguments about the Ukraine war is “After all, Russia started it”
So his article was worthless unless it included that one phrase “After all, America started it”, which explains any action at all that Ukraine or Iran take.
43
What! You mean the International Rules Based Order doesn’t apply to USA?Israel.

“And now, a major fund for “green” energy projects has announced the end of its program after Phase I’s failure. ‘Declining fertility rates have long been viewed as a drag on economic growth, but the outlook may not be entirely bleak for Asian economies such as China, South Korea and Japan, analysts said.
‘Demographic pressure was accelerating investment in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) in these rapidly ageing yet technologically advanced countries, helping offset labour shortages and sustain productivity even as populations shrank, they argued’ (SCMP).

In the news on TV last night it was mentioned that soaring petrol prices have resulted in increasing interest in EVs. Not sure who wrote the news, but it sounded like a publicist for EV sellers, as they mentioned that EVs are cheaper to run than ICE vehicles, if the EVs are charged at peak times.

Not that I watch live television, but the propaganda is endless.

I have just (reluctanly) signed up for a 42 kWh battery system for our house.
I say reluctantly because i feel i have been manipulated into a position “between a rock and a hard place”
Increasing electricity costs, and heavily subsidised battery prices (for a limited period ending May 1st) and supply plans with 3 hours of free electricity have forced my hand to make a decision i wish i could avoid.
I figure a large battery , with a high capacity inverter, should be able to charge the 42 kWh battery using the “ free power” (11-2:00 pm) , and enable whole house backup from the battery for the remaining 23 hrs.
I understand there may be a 24 kWh limit for the free period , and higher peak and supply charges, but i hope to significantly reduce the $700-800 quarterly electricity bills
20
How much is the battery costing you, including installation?
Are you in Victoria?
00
Just under $8k in round numbers.
10
NSW…
10
That should give you a payback period of 10-12 quarters or 3 years!
Should work so long as the free electricity persists. Probably even worth it if you aslo charge the battery from your own solar panels.
10
I should add,…i am not relying on the 2 kw solar system currently installed, due to shade and other issues, but expecting the “whole house backup” from the battery to cover our <15 kWh average daily consumption.
But, if necessary, i am prepare to review the situation next year once all the details of the “freepower Solar Share” deals are known.
00
It will be interesting to see how it goes. I hope they don’t change the rules on you.

It appears POTUS Trump has wrecked the ideal world the globalists aspires to.
I wonder what view will get support in Farrer today. The world where we need wind turbines to charge batteries in electric tractors all made in China so the farms can provide food in the distant future or diesel at the local servo to run the farm tractor today.

Despite all their protestations, I’d be thinking that the government would be loving the increasing fuel prices. It gives them a bigger income stream cut from the GST being charged at the pump, ~30% more GST ($1.60 to $2.40) on each fill depending on how much the prices have gone up. (Check my maths.) The fuel excise is a fixed rate, but GST, goes with the flow and right now the government is enjoying the increased income. I’m not too sure if the consumers have cut back or not, but fuel is an essential for transport and agriculture, we can’t do without it. There’s no point just half filling your car to save a few $ today, because tomorrow it may another 6-10 cents more.
Bowen in the Wind said something along the lines, “well, if you all bought EV’s when I told you so” we wouldn’t be in this predicament. Yup, EV trucks, planes, cars and agricultural machinery all plugging into the grid, I can see that working well.
And why are your government not driving EV’s themselves?

The EV thing is just a few smug gits that can’t see that the country doesnt run on passenger cars. The usual level of lefty awareness and focus on the superficial.

New study shows Alzheimer’s disease can be reversed in animal models to achieve full neurological recovery, not just prevented or slowed
After finding that NAD+ levels in the brain declined precipitously in both human and mouse AD, the research team tested whether preventing the loss of brain NAD+ balance before disease onset, or restoring brain NAD+ balance after significant disease progression, could prevent or reverse AD, respectively.
Remarkably, not only did preserving NAD+ balance protect mice from developing AD, but delayed treatment in mice with advanced disease also enabled the brain to fix the major pathological events caused by the genetic mutations. Moreover, both lines of mice fully recovered cognitive function.

London buses to be fitted with stab kits
Calls for “bleed kits” to be rolled out across London’s bus network have gained traction, with the London Assembly unanimously backing a motion to install them in major bus stations and trial them on high-risk routes.
These kits, designed to stem severe bleeding from deep wounds, are pitched as a lifesaver in emergencies—yet their sudden necessity speaks volumes about the city’s descent into chaos under unchecked policies.

Reading the newspaper about “ethnic cleansing” being carried out I was appalled and mentioned it to her. A very nice young married woman from a sheltered family background her response surprised me, that “they” deserve it.
Explaining that civil war in Macedonia was likely for the same reasons being “refugee” immigrants seeking and being granted asylum and when their communities reached influential numbers they demanded special treatment and privileges based on their cultural and religious beliefs, and even made villagers lives difficult to “encourage” them to sell often family homes of hundreds of years.

Caution vehicle owners when parking in carparks or street spaces in quiet areas fuel theft.
My son had a Land Cruiser business vehicle with twin diesel tanks and at the time just filled up before going home and parking in the street as off street parking had family vehicles. Next morning sun rise time he drove away and when at the job site noticed the locking cap had been removed on the driver side tank and then checked and the other side was missing. He had apparently not noticed the lower fuel gauge reading. He phoned me and I checked outside and found the two locking caps in the gutter. How they were unlocked is a mystery.
I have heard from police at that time that in desperation fuel thieves will punch a hole in a vehicle fuel tank to drain from, and advice was that if you decide on locking fuel access more damage can result.
Be careful where you park.
