I am just reading an interesting book entitled “The extinction of Experience: Reclaiming our humanity n a digital world”.

I was struck by this quote “technology-the knack of so arranging the world that we need not experience it”. It was made by Max Frisch way back in 1957.

People increasingly seem to want to text rather than talk to people and stare at their smartphones constantly when walking down the street and instead of gazing at a Famous painting when stood in person in front of it, seem to prefer to see it through the eyes of their smartphone camera. This withdrawal into an online digital world will have enormous consequences.

It is very easy to get into the realms of conspiracy theory. However when researching the issues around a new 5G pole situated along a near by main road I was struck by how many experts were expressing concern about the known effects of 5G which requires many more poles to carry the signal. That led into other credible but not definitive papers as to the effects of smart phones, servers ipads etc and those other items that create electronic pollution.

This article seems to suggest the debate is not yet over despite all the big players assuring us that everything is ok

If you are referring to health claims, see the section on the wiki page “5G”
[“Experts noted that millimeter-wave frequencies used by 5G cannot penetrate the skin or reach internal organs.”]
This fits with my (limited) reading of physics.

The great conundrum is that where there are groups within society who view harmony and tolerance as weaknesses to be exploited.

Worse, there are those who deliberately create disharmony and intolerance for the purpose of exploitation.

And at the heart of the problem is the seductive power of inventing rules for others to live by.

According to my world view it might be a good time for the space aliens who set everything in motion to come back on an inspection tour and do a bit of fine tuning. Or maybe they already have.

We know quite a bit about the life and times of Eric Arthur Blair but I don’t think I’ll ever figure out what inspired him to write those instruction manuals so cleverly disguised as cautionary tales.

Or maybe he didn’t intend to write instruction manuals and was merely describing what he had observed about the dangers of evil.

And to respond to your observation about frighteningly true in current times, when was it ever different?

…I don’t think I’ll ever figure out what inspired him to write those instruction manuals…

Or, perhaps part of time traveling development, wrote the history book so that his travelling handlers had clear evidence of success and where in time he ended up. A bit like Leonardo and his early (and primitive so as to avoid a witches bonfire) aerial screw and diving suit so far ahead of his time. Relax its Saturday.

          Maybe time travelling space aliens.

Suspiciously the cows over my back fence have all congregated at the far end of the paddock. They pretend to eat grass but I’m sure they are up to something.

Congressional Report Warns Britain Is Exporting Censorship Worldwide

Starmer’s government faces an unprecedented rebuke from Washington for adopting what it calls “copycat censorship laws,” warning that the country’s digital regulations now pose “a direct threat” to free speech.

The document, published by the United States House Committee on the Judiciary, describes an expanding campaign to impose “strict digital censorship laws” on global technology platforms. Lawmakers in Washington identified the Online Safety Act as the clearest example of this approach. US lawmakers say these provisions give the British government broad authority to dictate what can and cannot be said online. Congressional members also accuse British authorities of using the law to threaten American platforms. The report claims that Starmer’s administration has gone further than its predecessors, citing warnings that he is “threatening to take X offline in the UK.” Congressional oversight findings referenced in the report suggest that British regulators have previously tried to suppress political discussion online. During the 2024 riots following the Southport attack, Ofcom was said to have targeted speech that questioned the government’s handling of justice and law enforcement. The report recounts: “Graham Linehan, an award-winning comedy writer, advocate for protection of women-only spaces, and Irish citizen, was arrested by armed police upon his arrival at London’s Heathrow Airport from the United States for three tweets he posted several months prior. Linehan’s possessions were ‘confiscated’ and he was transported to a prison cell before being released on a single bail condition: he could no longer post on X. It was a clear attempt by British authorities to silence a political opponent who resides in the United States.”

Both the President of the United States, Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are taking legal action against the BBC, to destroy the BBC’s Global Propaganda and Censorship network.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a statement of interest backing the suing of the BBC lead Trusted News Initiative (TNI). US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that the BBC lead ‘Trusted News Initiative’ was initiated by the BBC and sought to prevent the publication of stories or events that deviated from government orthodoxy. But the role of the media is to speak truth to power and safeguard the freedom of expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. Attorney, Jed Rubenfeld, said the DOJ’s statement confirms the “importance of this case and the gravity of the TNI’s concerted attack on dissenting online news publishers.” “The TNI is a classic abuse of market power and its censorship of facts and opinions online, especially during the pandemic, was and is a grave threat to democracy,” Rubenfeld said. The plaintiffs allege they were censored, banned, deplatformed, shadow-banned or otherwise penalised by the Big Tech firms that partnered with the BBC lead TNI.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, sued the BBC in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Trump seeks $5billion in damages from the BBC, for defamation in propaganda produced by the BBC, in the Panorama episode “Trump: A Second Chance?.” Laurence Williamson is credited as the Film Editor of the Trump speech. He splice together two different parts of Trumps speech, from “we’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women,” with Trumps later phrase, “And we fight. We fight like hell,” which was spoken about 50 minutes after the first quote in the original speech. Also removing the word “peacefully” which Trump used earlier. Williamson’s edit omits the usual flash between edited segments, manipulating the footage of Trump’s speech, to create a fake violent narrative.

The US State Department is also investigating 448 members of the British 77th Brigade Domestic and International Psyops Teams and up to 120 members of the GCHQ JTRI Group, spying on American citizens in Britain and America. The Twitter files also found thousands of British 77th Brigade accounts on Twitter. Musk then sacked British 77th Brigade psyop spy Gordon MacMillan who joined Twitter in 2013 as the company’s Head of Editorial for Europe.

I’m impressed by how little investigation there seems to be of how Epstein became so rich and powerful in one lifetime.

There seem to be at least two possibilities.
One is that the bad guys are immensely powerful. Powerful beyond comprehension.
The other is that it just isn’t that hard for the bad guys to prosper.

As for Epstein being a Russian asset? Well the media would say that, wouldn’t they?
Because Trump is a Russian asset too and Putin is the grand puppet master, isn’t he?

Facts? We don’t need no stinkin facts. We’ve got a universe to master.

    Libs are Delusional

There are two topics that the Liberal Party must engage on if they want to recover; mass immigration and Net Zero! But they can’t or won’t.
According to Paul Murray in Sky News last night moderates in the party have identified that they risk loosing more inner city seats because they are perceived to be too right wing.
    Wrong.
Inner city seats have gone to the Teals.
Outer suburban seats are where the votes are. Outer suburban voters are dealing with cost of living, housing crisis, transport issues, traffic congestion, cultural change etc and they are grasping for straws to save themselves.
They will vote One Nation because there is nothing else.

I am somewhat aligned on your comments but the fundamental issue is not NetZero or even Climate Change™. It is the lack of Australian pushback on UN treaties and how this mob try to limit our freedoms.

The UN is shaking every tree in the hope of gaining a steady income stream. The Climate Change™ “ambition” (tribute) is withering. US killed their shipping tax. US has withdrawn from many wasteful programs. The UN are now proposing a carbon tax that they levy on industry.

UN now has a budget shortfall of 20% and have about 20% of their staff on the chopping block. They will be looking at other countries to fill their coffers and I expect the globalists in Australia will be supportive.

There are no grown-ups in the UN that have earnt a real living by producing something of value. They are all spoilt children with their hand out.

The electorate is uninterested and it won’t win votes, and the UN will most likely make HK their new headquarters.

FWIW – Something different on the food scene from today’s Coffee and Covid newsletter

    Start here

“For decades, food safety was a Democratic talking point. Now deep-red Florida is actually doing something about it— and what they found could spoil your breakfast. Yesterday, Lake Worth CBS affiliate 12-News reported, “Florida testing finds high levels of Roundup weed killer in several popular bread brands.” In case you missed the advisory, you’re not even supposed to touch Roundup. No swallowing.”

I thought the roundup was supposed to degrade before it got in our food.

Degrading requires time. That time has been reduced by creating “Round-up Ready” crop varieties that are tolerant to Round-up used before harvesting. Weeds die but the crop survives.

I learnt this from comments RFK Jr made.

        This gives more insight:
Winter barley crops are ripening well and thoughts will now turn to grain quality, moisture levels, and ease of harvesting. This year in particular grasses and other weeds are a real problem in many fields. Pre harvest application of glyphosate is an essential tool to improve the efficiency of harvesting, giving a range of benefits:

Glyphosate enables “no till farming”. No till is literally planting through stubble, no plowing. The benefits are many but only with chemical weed control.

No-Till Farming Benefits (Summarized from Key Sources):
Soil Health & Structure: No-till farming preserves soil structure, reduces compaction, and increases organic matter. This enhances soil fertility, water retention, and supports beneficial microbes and earthworms.
Erosion Control: Crop residues left on the surface significantly reduce wind and water erosion—studies show reductions of over 80%.
Water Conservation: Residues improve water infiltration and retention, boosting drought resilience and reducing irrigation needs.
Economic Savings: Farmers save 50–80% on fuel and 30–50% on labor by reducing field passes. A 1,000-acre farm can save over $8,500 annually in fuel costs alone.
Climate Mitigation: Reduces greenhouse gas emissions by cutting fuel use and sequestering carbon in soil—equivalent to removing over 1 million cars from roads annually in the U.S.
Improved Yields & Stability: Long-term adoption leads to more consistent yields, especially under extreme weather, and supports higher crop productivity.
Reduced Input Costs: When combined with cover crops, herbicide use can be lowered due to natural weed suppression.

Not mentioned is improved worm counts. Cutting a worm in half with a plow-disc kills it, in spite of what you might have believed as a kid.

      High levels.

      But no levels quoted.

Glyphosate kills plants by inhibiting a specific enzyme called 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS), which is essential for the shikimate pathway. This pathway is crucial for plants and some microorganisms to produce aromatic amino acids like phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan—building blocks needed for protein synthesis and growth.

Doesn’t sound like a nerve agent or such, strictly botanical.

There seems to have been a change in tone of the rhetoric coming out of Russia.

Russian newsprint is talking about recession.

    and

Kremlin Just COMPLETELY FLIPPED THE SCRIPT!

What just happened in early 2026 looks surreal even by Kremlin standards. Russian state television and official diplomats suddenly flipped the script, openly condemning a so-called “special military operation,” praising protests, defending dissent, and speaking the language of international law, dialogue, and restraint. Channels that spent years branding protesters as traitors now frame them as heroes, while officials talk about sovereignty, moral responsibility, and the dangers of armed aggression.

Maybe the “Russian Dude” is taking liberties? Is the message aimed at current US “peace” actions? Either way, his scripts are well written.

Putin learned from the mistakes of his communist party predecessors on the topic of dissent. Rather than trying to completely shut it down, he generally allows public protests and statements of discontent to bleed off a bit off a bit of public anger as long as they remain orderly and fairly small … until it reaches a point where he no longer considers it orderly or of a manageable size. He also allows a modicum of journalistic freedom … until it reaches a point where he decides it is too damaging or too much directed at him. As long as protests or the news remain within his tolerance, he mostly leaves them alone, but heaven help them when he decides they have crossed the Rubicon. Then he crushes them, defenestrates them, or slips them a polonium milkshake and they don’t know it’s coming until it’s already too late.

In a real global financial reset of course China would suffer mightily, but I think they would recover pretty quickly because they will still have a manufacturing capability that most of the west shut down years ago. And apart from China’s state-of-the-art factories, they have managed to preserve a large number of ‘artisan’ makers of stuff, villagers with skills in farming, baking, weaving baskets, making furniture, fixing cars with sellotape and string, welding, pottery making, etc.

Conversely, most western nations would struggle to reconstruct themselves as modern, self sufficient economies and have relatively few of those ‘artisan’ fixers of things.

Happy to be corrected but it seems the last 6 Melbourne months were driest for many years. Notwithstanding reports from other areas.
My 4kL rain tank was emptied weeks ago – first time ever.
Again, maybe I have watered my garden more often but I do not think so.
Now the question – how do they enumerate rainfall over the continent ? By drying vegetation ?

    20

    • #
    • #
      Forrest Gardener

Sorry about that. Queensland borrowed Melbourne’s rainfall for a while to flush out the rivers which flow to Lake Eyre. Judging by the floods we may have overdone it a bit. We’ll give it back when we’re finished. Probably in a few month’s time when winter starts (aka the dry season up here).

And you had a serious question. I thought the BOM weather stations had rain gauges. The results go up on https://www.bom.gov.au/climate/maps/rainfall/?variable=rainfall&map=totals&period=daily&region=nat&year=2026&month=02&day=06

The BOM charts do seem remarkably precise given how few official rain gauges there are. Must be those secret unrepeatable algorithms they use.

      20

      • #
        Vladimir

She said historically there used to be 19 k rain gauges in Australia, now days there is about 7k, about a gauge per 1000 sq. km.
Which makes me to doubt anything BOM / ABC / ALP say on the subject of rainfall – past, present and emerging.
When I see shower here, 5 times out of 10 my gardening mate, who lives 20 km away, reports “not a drop !” Once or twice – it is opposite.
Naturally, majority of 6600 rain gauges on duty are situated “under a lamp post”, so there is the whole “science” – tech and math how to extrapolate across known Universe.

Here is unsolicited advice to PHON . To answer a hostile question about the party Climate Policy you say :

Upon assuming responsibility for weather-related data and its use in Australia we will
        1) Prohibit the use of word Climate, unless in poetic or similar vague sense ;
        2) Mandate maximum time and geographic extent of weather forecasts ;
        3) Focus (effort and funds) on achieving best accuracy and timeliness of the said forecast, ie – Here and Tomorrow, not Worldwide by the end of Century !
        4) Audit and disclose immediately the cost for Australia of the whole multi-decade Climate Change fraud.
        5) Act in all other areas – industrial, financial, educational, etc,.. in accordance with Australian interests.

There’s no mention of the mythical ‘Aotearoa’ although New Zealand is classified under ‘Australasia’, and with NO HOT SPOT yet discovered above the Tropics, all the lifting has been left up to the Arctic to keep the [fraction of a degree] fearmongering continuing [before it trips, tips, and falls over the edge of no return?].

        Thank you for this link.
The kind of thing I appreciate.
        However …
I could gather my entire social circle and present this to them.
Their faith in, and fear of Climate Change would not be diminished in the least.
Their response to my science based anti-science heresy would contain at least one utterance of the word ‘Trump’.

“… if this keeps up they might disappear altogether.”
        Yep.
        Climate Change.
Funny how Climate Change has become like racism.
        Eternal.
That which no counter factual, and no amount of ‘change’ can change.

I like the bit about having to use nuclear powered electricity to melt the ice of wind turbine blades.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to leave the turbines until Spring?
Any damage wouldn’t affect the winter capacity and leaving them frozen would increase electricity for others in cold times.

I had a vet student friend from USA in the early 1970’s.

His story was that there had been an earlier sterile male control program in southern USA that had got to about 95% control. Then the government funding tapered off and away it went again.

The hope then was the renewed program which was starting release well down in Mexico.

    Seems lessons weren’t learned.

    Germany’s gas shortage becoming critical.

‘Politicians, media lying about “harsh winter” being the cause of the shortage… Reality: Mismanagement is to blame…Germany was never even prepared for a WARM winter!

‘By late January 2026, German gas storage levels had dropped to approximately 32.75%. As of today, February 6, 2026: the storage fill levels are at only 28.1%. And things risk getting much worse.’ (Notrickszone)

“People Have Questions About This Local Media Description of the Weapon Carried by a Suspect Police Shot”

“Paying attention to how the media reports about guns over time can make for an interesting venture (especially if they’re trying to pass themselves off as experts), but thanks to this story from KTLA we’ve run across something we can’t recall having heard before:”

“That description was used in the headline, and in the story:

Overhead footage also captured several chalk-circled evidence markers in the roadway near a patrol SUV, along with what appeared to be a long, rifle-style gun lying on the pavement close to fencing. In addition, multiple patrol vehicles were seen surrounding the museum complex, with yellow tape blocking off sidewalks and entrances.”
