The Left’s outrage at TRUMP’s ballroom is just TDS and ignores the fact that numerous other presidents have made substantial alterations to the White House. And the Ballroom is badly needed. It will have a seating capacity of 999 guests, an upgrade from the existing 200 which necessitates putting up tents and porta-potties for state functions.

I’m guessing this will be targetted for demolition or deliberate misuse when the next Dem President eventually arrives. The childish tantrums of politicians know no bounds.

In Defense of the White House Ballroom – Washington Post
Opinion Editorial Board – In defense of the White House ballroom – Donald Trump vs. the NIMBYs
The teardown of the White House’s East Wing this week is a Rorschach test.
Many see the rubble as a metaphor for President Donald Trump’s reckless disregard of norms and the rule of law, a reflection of his willingness to bulldoze history and a temple to a second Gilded Age, paid for by corporate donors.
Others see what they love about Trump: A lifelong builder boldly pursuing a grand vision, a change agent unafraid to decisively take on the status quo and a developer slashing through red tape that would stymie any normal politician.
In classic Trump fashion, the president is pursuing a reasonable idea in the most jarring manner possible. Privately, many alumni of the Biden and Obama White Houses acknowledge the long-overdue need for an event space like what Trump is creating. It is absurd that tents need to be erected on the South Lawn for state dinners, and VIPs are forced to use porta-potties.
The State Dining Room seats 140. The East Room seats about 200. Trump says the ballroom at the center of his 90,000-square-foot addition will accommodate 999 guests. The next Democratic president will be happy to have this.
Preservationists express horror that Trump did not submit his plans to their scrutiny, but the truth is that this project would not have gotten done, certainly not during his term, if the president had gone through the traditional review process. The blueprints would have faced death by a thousand papercuts.
Fortunately for Trump, the White House is exempt from some of the required regulations that other federal buildings must comply with.
Because it has become far too difficult to build anything in America.(Could substitute Australia Here!)

Here is a video where a homeless man explains his sleeping system.
I was surprised at his high level of organisation, and being an outdoor enthusiast myself, he described his sleeping system in much the same way as would a hiker in an equivalent video describing their own sleeping system.
The difference is that the hiker probably spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on their sleeping system and the homeless guy spent almost nothing. Improvisation is the key for the homeless guy. The hiker’s sleeping system might also be lighter, but not necessarily because the homeless guy doesn’t use a tent or other accessories.
The homeless guy also seems highly articulate and well educated.

So not only are they seizing the gas industry, they are also taking over the private railways. This is odd-
“The Labour government said renationalization will save up to £150 million ($203 million or €178 million) in compensation fees paid to rail operators. ”
Why are they having to compensate private railroad companies? Is it to do with Govt still owning the tracks and not meeting their obligations?
I expect more rail worker strikes, trains not on time and bolshie staff who don’t give a sh1t about the public, the usual of public ownership. The gas industry will be different, just a lack of gas when needed so no electricity.
60
No its not – it died last year or maybe the year before but is yet to be declared dead. Australia achieved the same.
Anyone who thinks that UK and Australia have viable manufacturing industries need to take a look at China to see what viable manufacturing looks like. Even the Chinese owned basic industries in Australia are on government welfare.
A country can have weather dependent electricity and de-industrialisation or coal fired electricity and industry. Australia has made its choice.

In manic Sth Australian style, Germany just blew up a servicable nuclear power plant.
An extract from the Eugyppius blog. “The nuclear plant at Gundremmingen once produced a quarter of all the power generated in Bavaria. That was before we shut down its reactors in 2017 and 2021, in the course of our insane and totally purposeless nuclear phaseout. In theory anyway, we could have reactivated Gundremmingen in as little as four years. Instead, yesterday at noon exactly, we detonated the plant’s cooling towers. As the ecologically-minded Bayerischer Rundfunk reminds us, we can be grateful that light rain kept the dust pollution to a minimum.
RWE, Gundremmingen’s erstwhile operators, have all kinds of plans for the site. When they finally conclude dismantling the plant in the late 2030s, they want to put a 400-Megawatt battery storage facility there, and also maybe a natural gas power plant and a smattering of solar panels too. If it sounds good they’ll build it in Gundremmingen, but nothing they build there will ever prove remotely capable of producing the 20 TWh that the Unit B and Unit C reactors churned out at their peak.”

Leftist insanity is contagious.
The modern Socialists in Germany are fulfilling the last order of the leader of the National Socialists which was Nerobefehl, the Nero Decree, to destroy all German infrastructure. Albert Speer disobeyed the order.
And don’t forget wind power itself (for grid scale electricity) was a National Socialist idea as documented in Rupert Darwall’s book “Green Tyranny: Exposing the Totalitarian Roots of the Climate Industrial Complex”.
See link for rest. Good stuff.

Present day Socialists/Greens even use the same propaganda as National Socialists.

Some really interring ground.
A good question for a left leaving DEI academic. Why are Canada’s academic positions filled with 88% left leaning individuals – where is the diversity in political views? Wouldn’t academia be better served with a diversity of political views.

After his meeting with President TRUMP, Australia’s clueless PM returned wearing a “Joy Division” t-shirt.
Why would he wear a t-shirt of a band named after the slave staffed brothels for National Socialist war criminals in National Socialist death camps?

Monday 27 Oct, Labour Day holiday:
Heavy Snow Warning – Orange
(OrangeManBad destroys warming!)
“Heavy snow … 30cm [1 ft] to 800m [2,500’]”
“Snow to low levels … 200m [600’]”.
It’s already snowing in Queenstown and on mountain passes further north, with snow ‘forecast’ for the North Island volcanoes and hills right up the East Cape overnight… which is why I’ve ‘retired’ to NZ’s so-called Winterless North, ie. shorts & T-shirt.
Looks like the Tasman Sea cold wave is going to sweep as far north as Fraser Island, Queensland before turning around and the tropics come back to town: enjoy the change – it’s only weather. 😃

SE Melbourne – battery on low cutout in middle of the day. Water heat pump taking all and more of the 600W of solar. So looks like wood burner this afternoon.
It has not cracked double digits here and the sun is more than a month south of the Equator – if we could see it. All that damn cloud streaming down from central Australia.

What happened to the heatwaves propaganda of a few days ago?
40
The event didn’t last three days, so technically its not a heatwave. This cool wave in south east Australia has nothing to do with climate change hysteria.

For a moment there, I was genuinely surprised. A story in the UK’s Daily Mail reported a rape and said, right from the outset, that it was racially motivated. What? They almost NEVER say that, especially so soon after the crime. Even other cases of rape, assault and murder where racism is clearly a part of the crime, such as that poor white girl stabbed on the NY subway, are NEVER called racist by the media.
Then I saw video of the perpetrator and all was clear. The skin colours are such that it’s OK to call it racism.
21
Yes, you are right Steve. Two tier reporting, isn’t it? I went to the DM article and saw your comment there. If it’s racism to mention the skin colour of an alleged rape offender, then that holds for everyone, whites included. As soon as one sees any report about an offence, with no description of the person, one’s suspicious antennae come into play. Then, eventually, if you are lucky, there is a drip-feed of the ‘Welsh choirboy’ type.

“Surprised By Leftwing Radical Rhetoric? Look Closer at the Climate Movement”
“Millions of Americans were horrified when Charlie Kirk was murdered in cold blood. Then came an even bigger shock: large numbers of people celebrated his death and danced on his grave.
Sickening as it is, this shouldn’t surprise anyone. The left has long harbored—or at least tolerated—an anti-human streak, and nowhere is it more visible than in its radical environmental wing.
Leftwing misanthropy rears its ugly head when it comes to issues like abortion, euthanasia, and criticizing the traditional family. But radical environmentalism carries the same core belief: human beings are the problem. If we just had fewer human beings doing less, the idea goes, the world would be a better place.
Radical environmentalists preach the gospel of demographic decline, arguing that having fewer children cuts carbon more than a lifetime of bike riding and composting. Some environmentalists made the not-so-subtle point that thanks to the death and lockdowns of COVID-19, “nature is healing.” One recent study found that environmental activists, consumed by their mission, often tend to “manipulate and deceive others” and demonstrate “callousness” and “lack of empathy.” When saving the planet is the goal, who has time for people’s feelings?
The logic is clear: humans are the problem. Not the behavior of industry or the pace of innovation—but people themselves.”

In the national interest the social democrats promise to destroy the environment.
‘The environment minister would be able to approve projects at odds with nature laws if it was deemed in the “national interest” under the Albanese government’s planned overhaul of the environmental protection regime.
‘The proposed new provision was revealed in extracts of the legislation that were circulated to stakeholders on Monday, before its introduction to federal parliament later this week.’ (Guardian)
