It’s not just a cult, it’s a cult with our money.
When the government is funding research to fine tune ways to turn hairdressers into propaganda agents, we know they have far too much of our cash.
Imagine the screams if Big Oil were funding research like this?
Hairdressers could be a secret weapon in tackling climate change, new research finds
edited by Sadie Harley, reviewed by Andrew Zinin Phys Org
The study, published in Humanities & Social Sciences Communications, reveals that hair salons are hubs of trust, community and conversation where climate action can take root and spread.
Exactly how long will hairdressers be “hubs of trust” for — if they start regurgitating woke propaganda, and lecturing clients?
The research shows that hairdressers can be influential in everyday conversations with clients about climate and sustainability and are successfully prompting people to rethink their sustainability habits—ranging from their use of water and energy to their choice of bank or diet.
This is just another form of hidden advertising
It’s just low grade pollution in science, and deceit with the budget. The government does market research but calls it “science” and publishes in a peer reviewed paper, however the sole point of the knowledge is not to discover something to benefit humanity and share it, but to trick a few more people into buying solar panels or voting for governments that flagrantly waste their money.
Hands up who wants the government inserting itself in “long term relationships”?
Dr. Sam Hampton from CAST said, “Hairdressers build trust over months and years. That kind of relationship is gold when it comes to discussing climate change. We found salons to be unique spaces where clients feel safe, relaxed, and open to new ideas.”
But not open to all ideas, only the government permitted ones.

As I said yesterday, the “climate change” propaganda is getting increasingly extreme and bizarre, but they’ve outdone themselves with this piece.
Hairdressers as propaganda agents? Really? This is what academic “scholarship” has come to?

I think we have reached the heights of government propaganda. This latest foray of desperation to attempt to brainwash people just about says it all.
170
Dave,
But it is logical that brainwashing can benefit from washing hair that is as close to the brain as ordinary people can get. Washing Brain.
I was going to add a sarc symbol, but then I recalled that I have met people who actually do think this way. Mostly, resident in Australia now, female, younger than 30, voting to the left of politics, challenged by the English language, some history of activism, usually unemployed or teachers. Sometimes heard on our ABC. You know, typical voters wooed by greens.
No disrespect is intended for genuine, educated people who accidentally match some of these features. Geoff S

We are fully on the rails of BIG government. No way out, or back. Remember, we voted for this. Emotion versus policy. The ultimate path to destruction of everything.
If you could ask those in charge why, there would be silence. They don’t know. There is no answer that does not make them look like spoilt children.
A baby has no morals it demands food.
We have created a system of feeding without restraint. Totally reliant on unwritten environmental ethics without consequences. Government by feelings and attention seeking. No outcome too terrible. No amount of taxation uncollectable.
Housing loan foreclosures will start to spiral upward next month. April fools on steroids. A$600k a dollar too far for most at 6.5% interest.
In an economy based on land prices this is the end point.
Trump and the Liberal party will somehow be blamed for 50 years of stupid.
The howling babies will believe it.
The pain we must all suffer has not yet peaked. Soon it will. Not long to wait. The Piper is here.
190
“Remember, we voted for this. ”
Only 34% did.
And the people who do not know how to use preferential voting.
66% of voters did not.

” And the people who do not know how to use preferential voting.
66% of voters did not.”
Naah, should read:
” And the people who had to use compulsory preferential voting.
100% of voters did. “

I haven’t been to a barber for about a decade … maybe two. I’m not sure global warming had been invented back then.
70
I have been romantically involved with my ‘barber’ for 52 years and she is cutting my hair today, as it happens.
By the way, this stupid scheme was proposed a year or so ago, as I recall.
170
And my darling daughter does mine. I think I’ve only been to a barber once since she started her apprenticeship. (Busy producing a grandchild at the time!)
30
I certainly recall something from the last couple of years.
Hairdressers using the captive audience as targets for some ‘intervention’ or other – maybe eat less meat or wash your recycling or …
Well-meaning baloney – if too Nanny-state-ish for me.

Being bald does have its advantages. My Wahl clippers do my trimming and the buzzing of the blades drowns out any climate change claptrap that is being spoken in the vicinity.
Salon customers can look forward to propaganda with their perm and diatribe with their dye…
60
You spelled “dyetribe” incorrectly.
10
try 4 decades since Global Warming was invented as being a problem
60
Cutting mens hair is easy. My wife does mine. The last time I paid for a haircut was when I served on HMAS Stuart in 1971. I cut the boys hair as they grew up. Still have a full head of hair, so no need to ever visit a barber, unless I want to have a rinse & dye job.
20
The journal this dreck was published in is part of the Nature group. How a once-great journal has fallen.
200
My barber is ex-military, conservative and a sceptic. He would laugh if asked to participate in this propaganda campaign.
I can see woke, desperate governments like Australia’s in future requiring licensure for such professions of trust and a condition of such license being agreeing to become a propagandist. It might even extend to psychiatrists and doctors with medication and incarceration in mental institutions if you don’t change your mind.
I can visualise the scene at the end of A Clockwork Orange with Alex’s eyes clamped open being forced to watch films as part of the “Ludovico technique” which will be rebranded the “Bowen Technique” in Australia.
Nineteen Eighty Four was prophetic, not fiction.
210
In a lot of states in USA a license is required to cut hair. Perhaps passing a test must include the correct answers on climate control! (sarc)

Had to post this comment when I saw it: “”Oil prices are going to kill us all.”
Europe will “plunge into hell” due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said”.
And, Nut Zero wasn’t going to do that?
They all love Nut Zero … till it is thrust on them, then they suddenly don’t want it!

I’ll ask them to add petroleum based hair gel next time I go in for a chop

As if the Left don’t already have the entire Lamestream Media, public “service”, “academia”, trade unions, ABC, SBS, most “professional” bodies, the Labor Party, Greens, Teals, “moderates” of the Liberal Party, “schools” etc. already acting as their propaganda agents?
They want to make it into another East Germany, National Socialist Germany or USSR with Stasi, Gestapo or KGB agents and informers everywhere.
180
They really are delusional and unhinged if they thought this could work.
Sure there are rusted on left wing loons who’ll believe anything about this CC lunacy but they’re already onboard.
But I’d relish the chance to have some know nothing loon trying to fight against the data I’d throw in their face.
And most of my friends are very skeptical about the OECD wasting trillions of $ for a guaranteed SFA return.

Will barbers be bound by a code of confidentiality? Or, to use a phrase close to the hearts of the Victorian government, commercial in confidence. Or will any largesse heading in the direction of the hair industry be dependent upon the hair industry denouncing climate skeptics?
130
Would a sceptical hairdresser be decertified if they failed to attempt to persuade customers to uptake climate change propaganda? After all, doctors were deregistered 5 years ago if they did not comply with the prevailing covid narrative and convince patients to receive the approved therapeutics.
81
I would be reluctant to argue with a hairdresser while getting a cut. People who believe that propaganda tend to get quite angry when you expose the BS, and you might end up with an embarrassing mess on your head.
110
Or even worse, gentlemen’s barbers often use traditional cut throat razors.
90
Dirtman,
For that approach, dentists might be more convincing.
50
There is only 2 weeks between a bad and a good haircut so give them hell if they propagandize you
Then change barbers

I wonder how environmentally friendly the green, purple and blue hair dyes are that are so favoured by young Leftists?
And see:

Hair today, gone tomorrow after cuts

In the UK “Turkish” barbers/hairdressers are frequently used as fronts for criminal money laundering.
E.g.
Many streets have high numbers of such shops, far more than needed to meet the demand for haircuts as many YouTubers have documented.
110
I always thought that Hairdressers and Barbers, cut and styled hair, not shaped minds.
Things must be getting desperate in the “Climate Alarmist” World.
Oh dear.
70
I can’t imagine my barber entertaining this idiocy. Do we see any difference between a barber and a hairdresser?
To me the barber is typically a guy with 1 or 2 barber chairs and only charges $20 or less for a haircut/trim (mines only $17). While a hairdresser is a “salon” with multiple chairs and mostly female staff all happily gossiping about the latest and charge a minimum of $50 for a “styled haircut”.
There are some more “upmarket” barbers, who charge like a wounded bull just for a trim, and some styling gel, those places I stay away from, I don’t need no gunk in my hair, gee I sound like an old grumpy man. I did know of one salon where the owner and hairdresser was a guy but he had about half a dozen lady hairdressers working for him.
My barber is a fisherman, hunter and car enthusiast. I can just imagine him discussing climate change. Well if he does it won’t be too kind. He has military equipment on display, bullet shells, rabbit traps etc and other “manly” things. He told me once that someone came in for a haircut and were horrified by the rabbit traps and military paraphernalia, he told them if they didn’t like it they could leave, so they did.

liberator:
stick with him.
My local Barbershop charges $35. Largely because every time the (row of) shops changes hands the first thing the new owner does is shoves the rent up. And the cost of electricity and Council Rates also seems to go up.
Still he migrated from Yorkshire to improve life. He’s been back (mostly to visit mother and relatives) about every 10 years but doesn’t want to go back again.

I guess 95% of school teachers haven’t been enough.

Will the comeback to we anti-CAGW types become “but you’re not a climate scientist, nor a hairdresser, so your argument can be ignored”

There are 61 references in their paper so does this fit the meme of the more authors, the worse the paper?
They also picked their subjects to meet their expectation (I suspect):
“This research focuses on a widespread and conversational space – hair salons. It engaged with sustainable salons across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland”
Perhaps duplicate this study in pubs which are also ‘conversation spaces’. A different outcome, possibly.
They also claim “The authors declare no competing interests.” yet their positions include:
Dr Briony Latter – At Cardiff University, I am part of the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST). I am also part of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research
Dr Sam Hampton – He led a project called ‘Pathways to a Zero Carbon Oxfordshire’, and is working with Local Authorities to implement the changes needed to eradicate fossil fuels from the economy.
Professor Denise Baden – Denise is also the founder and Chair of the University of Southampton Green Group, the SBS representative on the University Sustainability Implementation Group and also chairs the Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability Committee.
50
I think they should recruit the proctologists.
Not a good position from which to express skepticism.
90
But! But! I think (dangerous word, that one!) that our most-learned Minister for Energy & Climate Change (or is it the other way around?) would tend to agree! After all, gossip (interesting word, that one) is the best way to spread ‘facts’ – as the late unlamented Herr Adolf Schicklgruber (a specialist in gossip speeches) would have agreed.
And especially about those nasty Jews who have never created/invented/discovered anything worthwhile – as the worthy Ayatollahs will attest ….

In the salon you relax in the chair,
As the hairdresser rinses your hair,
But if chat gets too cosy,
On your lifestyle too nosy,
To sustainable living, beware.

Hubs of trust? Oh please!
They’re always talking about you behind your back.
Maybe baldies can don wigs and go feed them false information in retaliation.

Or on the other side of the coin …
Klimate Kultists hatch plan to destroy the hairdressing industry. Spokesthing says unbelievers have no right to look good when Kultists are so ugly.
40
George Burns said that it was too bad the people who know how to run the country are busy driving cabs and cutting hair.

Leftist governments years ago stopped pretending Climate Change was real. No one justifies it. They have passed enough laws through parliament that nothing short of repeal will stop the Climate Change streamroller. There is no longer any point arguing with science. Science has nothing to do with it. But they don’t want to lose elections, so the farce continues.
It’s as life King Cnut proved he did not control the tide but his bean counters taxed it anyway. And they are revelling in the rivers of cash.
As for hairdressers, its wrong to involve them in any way in this utter deceit.
There is not the slightest trace of real science in man made CO2 driven rapid Global Warming aka Climate Change. But the destruction of Western Democracies is very real. And all the money flows to China. Cui Bono?
40
And I keep reading how wonderful John Howard was. But he introduced the first illegal bill to hide free money for windmills and solar panels in everyone’s electricity bills. Tens of billions of stolen cash for people to reap the cash from windmills paid by illegal taxation. And every Prime Minister since has done the same thing. No one really questioned any science. It was irrelevant. Backed up by the CSIRO and the Chief Scientist and the BOM, all making money from it. Universities say nothing. Vice Chancellors on million dollar salaries. The Government is always right.
Who needs the hairdressers. Almost no one questioned these laws and their legality. And John Howard says he is Climate Change ‘agnostic’, admitting he had no reason to legislate the theft without taxation or even using the word Carbon. It is the strangest law, so Prime Ministers could say there will not be a carbon tax in the Government I lead. And proceeded to legislate one and sign us up to every UN piece of nonsense.
Now it’s pretty obvious after 38 years of no change, it should all be undone, but the Safeguard Mechanism is the Grand daddy of hidden taxes and they plan to expand it. Everything you buy will be loaded with a 35% CO2 tax without any legality or actual justification.
It is past criminal. The billions stolen by the CFMEU are nothing compared to Snowy II, the RET, Agricultural Carbon Credits, Chinese electric car subsidies, blowing up cheap coal power stations and drowning the country in immigrants who hate our society and our government. And still the games continue, as if it is all about science. Even our local council forces people to build flood barriers because houses are only six metres above sea level and the costs are exploding.
We are being robbed. And we are told it is in a good cause?

Henrik Svensmark and his team had found, with proof, that cloud cover rules climate and that cloud formation is dependent on solar activity and cosmic galactic rays that seed clouds.

This is tough.
Who am I more likely to believe as a trusted source of scientific information, my barber or an academic sociologist?
A former barber of mine did talk about climate change. He was sincere but not convincing. The academic sociologist would likely come off as not sincere or convincing.
30
Sir, how do you want your hair cut?
In silence please.
20
I haven’t been to the barber since the lockdowns began and one required proof of vaccination to enter such shops; rule by sorcery had arrived and is not leaving us anytime soon.

The Irish government floated this idea a couple of years ago. I don’t believe anything came of it. One feels some think tank is flogging the idea around.
