That 80+ year old UK May heat record that got beat yesterday, lasted a day. Several Europe country national heat records were broken. 100s of local station records broken.

      Fear not MrGrimNasty!

Just like record low temperatures, record highs are merely weather and have very little bearing on the climate. And it’s climate that’s meant to keep us all up at night.

No doubt Gee Aye will be along soon to reassure you in his customary manner.

I’m not afraid, impartially and scientifically speaking, we don’t get the cold records anywhere near as much. Frost’s have become rare in the UK, especially in the South. The UK climate has warmed, it doesn’t scare me, I don’t scream AGW, but I am amused that fellow skeptics find their beliefs offended by reality, and posting about interesting weather generates the sort responses it does.

“sizzles … heat dome … hottest”

What are these things they speak of? On the other side of the Med, ie. northern Africa, temperatures are below average – may have something to do with the clockwise rotation of the anti-cyclonic high pressure cell presently residing over Europe: warm Saharan air wafts northwards to Brighton and the White Cliffs of Dover while cold snow-forming air drops down from the Caucasus to the Levant then westwards to the Sahara, and round and round it goes…

It’s nothing out of the ordinary; these things happen; it’s called climate: yet all the huffing & puffing & baffoonery of Breaking Headline News reminds me of the mountain v. molehill story.

Paradoxically (100% naturally) it’s snowing across vast parts of the northern hemisphere and yet not a squeak, a fart, not even a tattle on The News™️, it’s all BBB (Burn, Baby, Burn!).

      https://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/static/china/next3days/snow

      https://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/static/globalrot/next3days/snow

‘Globalrot’ is a perfect title for this nonsense, a fitting link description. On the maps you can select Last 7 Days to see how much snow has fallen and where, as well as Next 3 Days and also Next 3-6 Days but that’s a guessing game with only 97% Consensus Conniving Confidence©️.

The high pressure is moving away and will be replaced by a swarm of lows.

      https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/maps-and-charts/surface-pressure

The same phenomenon can be seen in south east Australia, but there a gathering of lows is causing record breaking rain.

On last night’s SBS coverage about the heatwave there were video clips of people walking around apparently normally, some shirtless, some jogging, some sunbathing. So I winder how bad things really were if they we not all hiding inside or under shade.

    So it begins.

Mayor Zohran Mandami of New York City has begun his quest to destabilize private property rights in the city, threatening to seize properties from negligent owners.

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/dmitri-bolt/2026/05/26/mamdani-announces-plans-to-begin-redistributing-property-n2676673

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani kicked off his plan to “fix” the city’s affordability crisis with his official housing policy agenda, titled “Block by Block,” under which one of the first priorities is to allow the government to seize property from owners deemed “negligent” and redistribute it to so-called “responsible stewards,” a category that includes anyone from land trusts, nonprofits, or even tenants themselves.

“Through our new citywide campaign, Fix the City, we will focus on the worst landlords in New York City,” Mamdani announced. “When necessary, we will take aggressive legal action to remove negligent owners and property managers. And for buildings that have suffered chronic neglect, we will work to transfer ownership to responsible stewards. Stewards that include community land trusts, non-profits, or even the tenants themselves.”

What he fails to mention is that the biggest deadbeat slumlord in the city BY FAR is the city itself. The New York City Housing Authority is infamous for not maintaining th condition of the buildings they manage due to their budget constraints and lack of manpower. So how does them taking over even more buildings figure to improve things?

    https://x.com/noturbine/status/2059315496756088841

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is frequently labeled the worst landlord in NYC due to severe, systemic neglect affecting over 400,000 tenants in 325+ developments. It has been named in the Public Advocate’s Worst Landlord Watchlist, often topping it or being considered for the top spot, due to hundreds of thousands of open work orders, including severe mold, rat infestations, lead paint, and chronic lack of heat and hot water.

Key Issues and Findings regarding NYCHA:

Systemic Failures: Residents face hazardous conditions, including broken elevators, collapsed ceilings, and rodent infestations.

Massive Backlog: As of late 2025, reports indicate NYCHA has around 612,000 open work orders, showcasing a profound inability to manage its housing stock.

Perpetual Mismanagement: Public advocates have described NYCHA as the “worst overall landlord” due to these systemic failings, which continue despite, or sometimes because of, its status as a public entity.

Public Advocate Ranking: NYCHA has appeared on the Worst Landlord Watchlist multiple times, representing the most pervasive issues in the city’s housing market.

While organizations like A&E Real Estate Holdings are frequently identified as having the most violations among private landlords, NYCHA is consistently recognized as the largest and most problematic, often surpassing private landlords in total scope of neglect.

I seem to recall that several decdes ago, a previous scheme was introduced to New Yuck.

RENT CONTROL; Basically enforced caps on rents.

It worked as expected (at least by the reckoning of the apparently small number of sane people in that town.)

“Overheads (interest rates, GOVERNMENT “fees and charges”) rapidly overwhelmed rental incomes.

Property owners / landlords”, started “selling” to any mug punter in sight. Or, they simply evicted the tenants, took the properties off the rental market and sealed them up. Fires regularly “occurred” in these structures. Dodgy squatters infested some areas. Property taxes were ramped up. Hard to pay income tax when there is no “income”, so the idea was to tax the existence of bricks and mortar. Just like a certain bunch of ratbags in a country very near you and I, seems determined to do.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.”

The key element that differentiates from earlier attempts to improve the situation.

‘Under plank one, the city will build 200,000 new, affordable and rent-stabilized homes and preserve and stabilize another 200,000 homes.

‘This will involve a $22 billion investment throughout the next five years.

Is Ferrari going the way of Jaguar?

    Get woke, go broke.

Ferrari are going to release an electric car.

At least they are not dropping their ICE vehicle line-up – yet.

They might be doing it for virtue signaling or due to bullying by the EU?

I think only a rich woke Leftist poseur would by an electric EV, not a Ferrari aficionado.

The EV doesn’t even look like a Ferrari, it could just as easily be a generic Chinese EV.

As President TRUMP said, “Everything woke turns to sh-t.”

The highly anticipated model marks a departure from the aesthetic of typical Ferraris and comes even as other luxury car manufacturers, notably Porsche and Lamborghini, have scaled back on plans to launch their own EVs due to weak demand.

Shares of Ferrari in Milan fell about 8%, while U.S.-listed shares dropped roughly 4%. The Milan-listed stock is down more than 32% over the last 12 months.

To be fair, Ferrari is in the business of making ridiculously expensive, ridiculously fast high-performance cars, and EVs fit that business model to a T. What rich guy with multiple commas in his net worth wouldn’t want a Ferrari EV that can do 0-60 in three seconds?

The usual disadvantages that apply to EVs don’t really apply to a Ferrari. Nobody tows stuff with a Ferrari, or uses it for long road trips, or lives in apartment building without charging infrastructure. It’s a toy for rich people to show off their wealth among their cosmopolitan friends and to lord it over the poors.

Just looking at it on TV this morning, David. It was designed with Apple contribution, it seems. Says it all. It is an ordinary looking vehicle. Could be any mass produced vehicle you see on today’s roads. Many, many years ago husband had a 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB . It was a dry sump lightweight model and it was the real deal Red, of course. I only drove it once. The pedals were offset to the left, and when I drove around the first corner I pressed the accelerator, rather than the brake, and flew around the corner. Scared the hell out of me, and I never drove it again. I am a motorist, rather than a “driver”.! We owned it for 15 years., and sold it because the grease in the cam belt pulley became hard because of little use. In those days such cars were also subject to vandalism when parked on the street and we mostly only drove it to places where it could be off street.

My latest fun with offshore wind:

Offshore wind confusion: refunding a lease is not a buyout
    By David Wojick
    https://www.cfact.org/2026/05/26/offshore-wind-confusion-refunding-a-lease-is-not-a-buyout/

The beginning: “The Trump Administration is terminating the existing site leases for monster offshore wind development projects by refunding the lease payments already made. The wind-loving Democrats are nonsensically calling this a “buyout” supposedly done at taxpayer expense.

Of course this costs the taxpayers nothing because the money comes from the developers who are simply getting it back. The taxpayers may even benefit from these near billion dollar deals depending on how the Feds use the money while they have it, which can be many years in some cases.”

I don’t now how long it will take for these people to change their fantasies about the end of the world coming “real soon”.
Sir Isaac Newton was so annoyed about such predictions about the End of The Earth that (around 1696) he issued a statement that it would not be before 2060, with the proviso that it might well be longer, but not any shorter. It didn’t seem to have any effect, with some of the “Seers” issuing predictions, ever after one had failed.

Legal expert warns already struggling businesses posting AI memes of Anthony Albanese risk massive $100m fines

Businesses struggling with increasing taxes and financial pressures have been warned that AI-generated jabs at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese could cost them up to $100 million in fines.

    May 26, 2026

Businesses struggling with increasing taxes and financial pressures have been warned that AI-generated jabs at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese could cost them up to $100 million in fines.

Since the budget was handed down on May 12, the Prime Minister has been mocked by startup founders portraying him as the newest “silent partner” in their businesses.

Labor scrapped the 50 per cent CGT discount and replaced it with inflation-adjusted cost base indexation combined with a 30 per cent minimum tax rate on capital gains.

High income earners would face an even higher capital gains tax rate of up to 47 per cent under the indexation model.

Disputes practice leader Charlotte Hale, who works at commercial law firm LegalVision, said the memes flooding social media were not necessarily illegal, but could cross a line.

“The legal risk starts when a post creates the impression that the person endorsed, approved, sponsored or attended the business,” Ms Hale told The Australian.

Ms Hale said if the posts can be deemed misleading, compensation could be payable.

“If a business falsely suggests that a celebrity or politician supports a product, visited a venue or is affiliated with the brand, they could be forced to remove the content, issue corrections, pay compensation or defend court proceedings,” she said.

Corporations could cop fines up to $100 million or 30 per cent of adjusted turnover for serious breaches of Australian Consumer law.

Individuals face pecuniary penalties up to $2.5 million.

Ms Hales said that a disclaimer “helps” but is not a safety net for breaching consumer law rules.

    People in glasshouses ……
    Support for Renewable Energy Projects
As Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce actively supported several renewable energy initiatives, particularly in his electorate of New England. Notable projects include:
Project Name Type Capacity Expected Output Employment Impact
White Rock Solar Farm Solar 20 MW Approximately 46,000 MWh annually Up to 200 jobs during construction; 10 full-time positions over 20 years
White Rock Wind Farm Wind 175 MW Contributes to the national grid Part of a hybrid project with solar
Joyce emphasized the benefits of these projects, stating they would create jobs and help lower power prices by increasing energy supply.
    Skepticism About Reliability
Despite his support for renewable energy, Joyce has expressed concerns regarding the reliability of these sources. He has suggested that renewable energy can lead to supply issues, indicating a belief that they may not always provide consistent power. This skepticism reflects a broader debate within Australian politics about the role of renewables in the energy mix.
    Conclusion
Barnaby Joyce’s tenure as Deputy Prime Minister showcased a dual approach: advocating for renewable energy projects while also questioning their reliability. This complex stance highlights the ongoing discussions about energy policy in Australia.

Barnaby Joyce’s tenure as Deputy Prime Minister showcased a dual approach: advocating for renewable energy projects while also questioning their reliability. This complex stance highlights the ongoing discussions about energy policy in Australia.

Barnaby needs an education on climate change science, but I fear he will remain ignorant. Career politicians serve in their own self interest.

A friend got this, and assumed it was a made-up story.
Learning from song lines, creation stories and deep cultural connections between people and sky Country, the research will develop intercultural guidelines to help inform space policy, public education and industry practice.
The project aims to broaden Australia’s understanding of space by
recognising long-held Indigenous knowledge systems and their relevance to sustainable human activity beyond Earth.

This is Dr. Lara Daley from the University of Newcastle.
Her latest project, funded at over half a million dollars by the
Australian Research Council, is to design Aboriginal smoking
ceremonies and WELCOME TO COUNTRY RITUALS FOR ASTRONAUTS TO PERFORM ON MARS.

I think that The Australian Government could have been more careful than a $528,491 grant to Dr. Lara Daley, Research Fellow, University of Newcastle.

They must’ve got the idea from the movie The Right Stuff.

      Good movie, actually. From 1983.
About US starting the space program and the Mercury 7 astronauts. With a bit of Chuck Yeager sound barrier stuff thrown in.
      https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086197/

Although the casting and character names just missed.
Ed Harris plays John Glenn, Scott Glenn plays Alan Shepard, and Sam Shepard plays Chuck Yeager.

There’s a scene where Gordon Cooper (played by Dennis Quaid) goes to Australia while John Glenn is to orbit the earth. It depicts Aboriginals with a large camp fire and sparks/embers rising. John Glenn sees what he describes as fireflies just outside of his craft as he orbits earth.
I think the movie was trying to depict the Aboriginals somehow interacting with Glenn’s mission. A very odd inclusion. There’s a bit of theatrical licence taken in the movie. But it is still a good yarn.

      Nobody’s going to Mars.
      No Moon bases.
We’ve done next to zero operation outside the Magnetosphere.
We’re not likely to explore the final frontier when we are being taught to be afraid of our own shadows.
We must first conquer Transphobia and White Supremacy.
      Captain Kirk was a colonizer.

      Men can now give birth.
      So there is progress.
But maybe now that the IPCC has informed us that we might not all be dead in five years, maybe future generations can begin to imagine a human future in space.
Or a future in the first place.

Listen and watch re: arrival of ISIS brides.
Not a single question about Due Process – the most sacred thing for our politicians of all colours.
If sending a bag of clean Aussie passports ( 20 ? 50 ? 200?) through multiple International borders to unknown (formally) people is not corruption with a capital C – nothing is.

“ED DEPT DEFINES INSANITY: You know the maxim, doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Well, a new data deep-dive by Open the Books shows the Department of Education illustrates the accuracy of the maxim.”

      Its a universal problem.

‘Australian students have recorded their worst-ever results in national tests that measure digital literacy, with just 37 per cent of year 10 students and 50 per cent of year 6 students assessed as proficient.’ (ABC)

        Lol!

“Students..were marked on creating presentations, searching for information, analysing data and online safety…”These results have been trending down for two decades. At the same time, more and more children have had access to digital technology and devices,” Mr Clare said. “It begs the question: what is going on here?”

Well, students generally are quite tech-savvy, they are just not doing what you want them to do with it!

“”We’re not explicitly teaching students about evaluation of information: ‘Is this information correct? Have you tried triangulating it? Where did you get your source from?'”..You have to be able to make sure you can use systems critically and safely. You have to understand the bias and manipulation,””

…and I’m sure there would be PLENTY of bias and manipulation in what they were being taught at school!

    Satellite wars are starting-

“ICEYE-X36 was launched March 4, 2024 from Vandenberg on a SpaceX Falcon 9..a game-changer for Ukraine. It is a SAR satellite that has all but revolutionized the battlefield, enabling the identification of enemy equipment, tracking of troop movements and detection of even camouflaged equipment and command-and-control assets under virtually any weather conditions. ICEYE-X36 has a ground resolution of 16 centimeters, so even a footprint is visible from space…owned by Ukraine and Kyiv operates it with significant help from NATO and from NATO companies, helping Ukrainian analysts to sort out the received imagery. According to the most recent report, ICEYE-X36 has produced 4,100 images, located 238 air defense and signals intelligence units, successfully targeted 153 fuel depots, and 17 Russian naval bases.”

    However…

“Between May 14 and 20, Russia repositioned five of six recently launched Cosmos military satellites from an orbital inclination of 97 degrees to 97.8 degrees, putting the Cosmos satellites on the same orbital plane as a satellite known as ICEYE-X36…for what the trade calls a Rendezvous and Proximity Operation (RPO). Technically, the Russians could threaten ICEYE-X36 in a number of ways, ranging from actually destroying it, blanking out its solar panels that power the SAR system, to jamming the ICEYE radar using microwaves, lasers or other methods. Exactly why the Russians committed five Cosmos satellites to shadowing ICEYE-X36 is unclear.”

“When Data Disrupts Narratives: Europe’s Heat Deaths in Focus”

“Every once in a while, an intriguing fact hits my X feed, and it’s worth exploring a bit more.

For years, European media outlets have painted the U.S. as lawless, chaotic, and uniquely dangerous, all while confidently presenting their own societies as models of enlightened, culturally superior governance.

But reality, as it often does, has a way of complicating tidy narratives.

As Europe heads into another summer season, a less-publicized statistic popped up on my screen: heat-related deaths across the continent exceed the number of gun deaths in the U.S. Yes, that comparison is as striking as it sounds and is also notably absent from many of the same outlets eager to critique American risks.”
