The phase-change continues: The Sierra Club loses 60% of members, 350.org is suspended

By Jo Nova

The phase change in the Climate Apocalypse Trade rolls on, and the US leads the way

Already some US ‘grassroots’ organizations are having an existential crisis. Actually, the Sierra Club has been struggling for three years, but no one wanted to mention that.

Francis Menton at the Manhattan Contrarian points out the extraordinary collapse of the largest US environmental group, the Sierra Club:

The Sierra Club is in the middle of what might well be called an implosion. The New York Times reported the story on November 7. Excerpt:

The Sierra Club calls itself the “largest and most influential grass roots environmental organization in the country.” But it is in the middle of an implosion — left weakened, distracted and divided just as environmental protections are under assault by the Trump administration. The group has lost 60 percent of the four million members and supporters it counted in 2019. It has held three rounds of employee layoffs since 2022, trying to climb out of a $40 million projected budget deficit. . . . [T]his year, as the Trump administration returned better organized and better prepared than in its first term, the Sierra Club was the opposite. While Mr. Trump boosted coal power, canceled wind farms and rolled back pollution limits, the club was consumed by internal chaos, culminating when the board fired its executive director, Ben Jealous, a former president of the N.A.A.C.P.

No doubt some of the pain is due to Donald Trump, and the DOGE effect, but a lot of this was an inside job with help from the cheer-squad-media. The Sierra Club forgot it was supposed to care about the environment and jumped into all the crazy lefty bandwagons they could find. As they ran off the road, the media cheered them on, and censored anyone who tried to tell them how the real world works. Thus and verily, they went double or nothing over Lemming cliff.

Proving even the Green left can “Go Woke, Get Broke”:

By David A. Fahrenthold and Claire Brown, The New York Times

During Mr. Trump’s first term, when the Sierra Club was flush with donations, its leaders sought to expand far beyond environmentalism, embracing other progressive causes. Those included racial justice, labor rights, gay rights, immigrant rights and more. They stand by that shift today.

By 2022, the club had exhausted its finances and splintered its coalition.

It drove away longtime volunteers who loved the club’s single-minded defense of the environment, by asking them to fully embrace its pivot to the left. Some even felt they were investigated by the club for failing to go along. Many hard-core supporters felt the Sierra Club was casting aside the key to its success: It was an eclectic group of activists who had one, and sometimes only one, cause in common.

The club hired Mr. Jealous, its first Black executive director, that year to stop that slide, but his tenure accelerated it as accusations of sexual harassment, bullying, and overspending piled up.

Another casualty is 350.org which has lost revenue and suspended operations

And then there is 350.org. This organization is the baby of uber-climate-activist Bill McKibben, with the “350” supposedly designating some limit of ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere that must never be exceeded, or else . . . something may happen that they think is really, really scary. (The current level of CO2 in the atmosphere is approximately 424 ppm.). On November 13, even as COP 30 was going on, 350.org “suspended operations.” From Politico, November 13:

Environmental group 350.org, which spearheaded the movement to block the Keystone XL oil pipeline, will “temporarily suspend programming” in the U.S. and other countries amid funding woes, according to a letter obtained on Thursday by POLITICO. . . . The letter to outside organizations from Executive Director Anne Jellema said 350.org had suffered a 25 percent drop in income for its 2025 and 2026 fiscal years, compelling it to halt operations. The group will keep three U.S. staff members in hopes of reviving operations in the future.

In the US, the giant UN climate event in Brazil wasn’t even on the news.

“…were you even aware that this year’s COP 30 happened? In a piece today for the Civitas Institute, Steven Hayward notes that not one of the American television networks sent reporters to this year’s event. Coverage in the American print and online media was also dramatically reduced. Hayward writes, “A few reporters at the conference filed stories wondering whether this would be the last COP meeting.”

It appears that since Donald Trump didn’t go, the US TV networks didn’t bother sending camera teams.

I can’t remember a COP meeting ever, where anyone discussed how it might be the last…

I wonder what the cost would be to send a US TV camera team to one of these parties of the conferees? Maybe the legacy media are also focusing on the bottom line.
As to the “350” group, it was only ever a source of entertainment for skeptics. The Sierra Club has a more difficult history to evaluate. But, as with the United Nations, I’ll not weep at its demise.

Shakespeare would be ‘jealous’ of such clever prose: ‘Thus and verily they went double or nothing over Lemming cliff.’ But the point was well made as the sooner they destroy themselves the better.

And there is a lot of talk in the media that the sea levels are not rising (dramatically). Given man made CO2 driven Global Warming supposedly started in 1750, where is all this disaster from sea level rise? Not at any dock I have seen in hundreds around the world. And given that half of Bangladesh is under 1 metre above sea level, we would have noticed. So 37 years since we were told cities would be drowned, how much worse will it be in double that time, 74 years? CO2 has gone up linearly and the rise in sea levels should be accelearating. But where?

I saw one Youtube video asking was Science wrong? No, Science never said what Climate Scientists said. But people who have heard this story since they were children are starting to ask the obvious question. And anyone who has a favorite beach, dock, river with buildings can go there and answer the question themselves.

There is a real chance that the utter failure of every single prediction of disaster from the end of Polar bears, penguins, cairbou and drowned cities are obviously wrong. Not a little exaggeration but completely wrong. As for deforestation, how many people have actually been along the Amazon or Siberia, the great forests of the world? Plus the phytoplankton in the ocean surface, the greatest source of oxygen on the planet from before there was even life on earth.

So it will likely end like this. People just walking away increasing numbers from a scare which simply has run out of time. And no one is going to pay the UN $42Billion a year on their tax on bunker oil. Or pay into their $150Billion Climate Fund.

However in Australia, it will take a real DOGE effort to rid the country of all the punitive carbon taxes and farming and mining restrictions if we want to pay of the $2Trillion debt run up by politicians.

The $2Billion on COP31 is nothing compared to all the waste and the hundreds of thousands of public service jobs to enforce more and more punitive carbon taxes on Australians. Direct and indirect massive Carbon taxes and mining and farming climate based non science restrictions which we promised by all politicians would not exist. They lied.

As for a shortage of Gas in Victoria, when is someone going to say drill, baby drill? And frack, baby frack. Plus convert coal to town gas, as we did for over a hundred years. Free energy. Zero distribution loss. Zero distribution cost. No more transmissions lines. No more Canberra control of electricity.

In 1957 I started taking the train from Muswellbrook to Sydney to attend boarding school. I remember the huge tanks in Muswellbrook and Maitland that held the coal gas. They rose and fell within their steel cages as their contents filled or emptied. Looking out the windows of my steam powered train I could see progress and industrial activity as it crawled through Hamilton and Broadmeadow. We were a country on the move in those days. It was an exciting time to be alive. My father had a small dairy out of Denman and could afford to send me to school, buy a new diesel powered Ford tractor (twelve monthly payments to Theiss Bros) and a new Holden car without going to the bank. How far we have come. Dairies are few and far between, are huge operations and we import some milk products from overseas. Boarding school fees cost the average wage, tractors and cars are better but greatly more expensive, bureaucrats run the country and politicians are ignorant of even the most simple science. Irrigation dams are used for environmental flows and farmers are restricted in how much water they can harvest on their own land as well being told what trees they can harvest. We are crippled with red and green tape and the fasted growing sector is the least productive, the bureaucracy.

Thank goodness the end is nigh. As Churchill said “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” There is still much to do but it will be done.

“I remember the huge tanks in Muswellbrook and Maitland that held the coal gas”. When I grew up in the north of England we used to call those huge tanks Gasometers and every town had 1 or 2.

Melbourne had many gasometers. The original one was Port Melbourne. Melbourne was plumbed for gas decades before electricity. Gas for everything. And the original gas was from coal shipped from Newcastle, landed at the Lagoon pier in Port Melbourne next to the gas works. We solved problems in those days. Today bureaucrats spend their time shutting everything down.

And England imports wood chips for the DRAX power plant which used to run on coal. And the reason is ‘the science’, which is a nonsense as lawyers like to say. There is zero science behind this hatred of coal by truly ignorant people. And it’s a terrible ignorance, because they are true believers. The seas are rising, the cities are drowning, the oceans are boiling, the Polar bears are dying, the sky is falling, the Climate Change is upon us.

But it’s fine. Federal minister for the weather, Chris Bowen assures us that with enough sacrifice, taxing carbon dioxide, net zero and shutting the country down with his skilled direction, we can build Climate Fortress Australia, a sort of Bowen’s Arc. We just need to believe. And keep paying.

And I am conflicted. Either our Minister for Climate and Energy truly believes he is Gaia’s Archangel, sent to save Australia from Climate Change, whatever that is and no matter what the cost. Or he is a self important utterly self indulgent opportunist who cares nothing for Australia. His personal promotion to President of COP31 leads me toward the second.

Not to mention the sacrifice of all those public servants in his ministry. Especially the secretary, Michael Kaiser. Previously failed state Labor politician who was involved in a branch stacking controversy. He was rehabilitated by the Labor Party in 2003 and served as its Assistant National Secretary in the lead up to and during the 2004 federal election. In July 2025 Kaiser was appointed as the Secretary of the federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water by Anthony Albanese on a salary package of $930k p.a with a 5 year contract. We’re definitely paying him.

There is not ONE verified proof of global boiling. Not one. It is a failed hypothesis. The trouble is ruinable grifters and useful idiots like this alp/greens government BELIEVE in it. Moses could descend from Heaven with the 11th Commandment: Global Boiling is false and thou shall not believe in it; and still blackout would arrogantly say its true. The problem its advocates are now making fortunes from it or have so much ego invested in it they will continue down this path of wrecking our society. Logic and facts don’t deter them. I really don’t know what circuit breaker will. The SFLs have lost the plot, Pauline doesn’t have the votes yet so this mob of delusional clowns will continue on their destructive way.

Isn’t it ironic that the only “proof” of runaway climate change comes from runaway cooling as the world flips from the barmy interglacial period with temporary inhabit to the cold desert of the glacial period.

So, as we have pretty much come to the end of the current interglacial and anytime soon (a few thousand years) are likely to see a sudden flip to the deadly interglacial … in what kind of insane mind would anyone be worried about warming?

Sea level has been rising slowly since before CO2 levels increased. This rise is at different rates at different coasts, but the rate at any place has hardly changed since CO2 levels began to rise faster (see http://www.sealevel.info ). So, whatever is causing the rise, it isn’t CO2.

The rate of rise is different at different places because of tectonic movement – or, near large port cities, because of weight of concrete or freshwater extraction from underground.

And yet in Oz it rolls on. Nowhere near enough people have been burned yet. Our Political Class – with the exception of a few (count them on your fingers) who have the nouse to see where we’re headed and even less who have the Courage to say it – are taking us down the drain. Political Careers are the problem. If they only had two terms they’d start giving a toss.

All the hard work by all the climate skeptics over a very long period of time seems to be having an effect.
Yesterday we were remembering Viv Forbes.
There have been many others including especially JoNova and all her supporters.

The trigger was Trump pulling the USA out of the Paris agreement but other economic forces are also building up pressure.

The dam wall seems to be crumbling and it is about to give way!

The trigger was the rising cost of Nut Zero and the economic damage it is doing. Trump is a symptom and not the cause.

Another contributory factor is Ukraine and the realisation that Russia can now win any war, with the possible exception of nuclear, because between it and China they now completely outstrip the west’s ability to produce the armaments for the war that Russia and China will fight. And, the cause of that … was the Nut zero rising energy costs that destroyed steel and steel based industries in the west which are the bedrock of a large scale war.

Let’s keep asking , where’s our dangerous CC? SLR since 1850 proves the liars and con merchants have lied to us since 1988.
The 2025 Dutch Engineer’s study now shows just 1.5 mm a year since 1850 and yet NASA etc claim 200 mm from 1900 to 2000 or about 8 inches.
The Dutch study finds that the 1.5 mm year would see SLs increase by 150 mm by 2125 or about 6 inches or 50 mm less than NASA’s guestimate for the 20th century.
So where’s their so called dangerous CC, or crisis or existential threat?
Does anyone really BELIEVE their unscientific gibberish anymore?

    Good news!

But it’s not over yet, I am sure.
There are many – not just in politics – who are making anything from a good living to mahoossive fortunes from this scam.
    And it is a scam.
They will want – even need! – to keep your money coming in to their pockets.
They will fight and, possibly, may play dirty.

And I have a worry that ALL the environmental protection – the basic, necessary stuff [not bloody bat-tunnels for UK Trains!] – does risk being thrown out – tarred with the same brush.
That needs to be guarded against.

In this recent video Michael Shellenberger explains how the modelers have lied about many of their CC nonsense, like SLR, extreme weather events etc.
But like Lomborg and Dr Curry etc he still thinks Humans could be responsible for some of the recent warming.
But then he also tells us that the warming could be a good thing for us and our world.

He is not entirely wrong. A typical human at rest gives off about 100 watts of energy per day. This energy is primarily lost as heat to maintain body temperature. With about 8.23 Billion people in the world – and a few 60 to 100 W incandescent bulbs plus other stuff … .
I’m fairly sure (“high likelyhood”) all of these heat sources are more important than CO2.

Here’s the real coalface of their so called CC data.
Today the NON OECD co2 emissions are booming and the OECD countries’ annual co2 emissions are less than they were in 1988.
This is updated to 2024 and World annual co2 emissions are now 38.6 billion Ts.
The NON OECD are now 26.2 billion Ts per year.
The OECD are now 11.17 billion Ts per year and under 1988 annual co2 emissions.
And Aussies are now 0.387 billion Ts per year, but ending up in our SH co2 SINK or NET ZERO emissions.

If you believe, as I do, that The Blob has evolved as a hivemind absorbing the Western elite, Borg style … Climate Change was just a political ploy intended to degrade nation state authority and peasant political rights that nation state legal structures made possible.

So these fear porn activists groups aren’t needed anymore.
They were successful and have run their course.

The Blob is likely on the verge of making their (second) big play for world domination.
    (Pandemic almost worked.)
And they are becoming obvious and it’s now or never.
I’m guessing the new one kicks off in the UK.
Sort of already brewing and heading for boiling point … there and in Germany.
    Possible cascade across the West.

Just feels like a single key turning point will be forced by circumstance.
Deep State US Democrat Blob Senators just recently walked to the edge of inciting a military coup.
Weird, because Trump probably really isn’t the threat they perceive him to be.
    But they’ve gone mad.
And are blind to the fact that the deplorable MAGA people they detest so much, could probably be controlled with just normal politics.
Which will be their eventual downfall, though much destruction will be rendered before it ends.

The Sierra Club is in the middle of what might well be called an implosion.

It is no longer woke to support the climate scam in the USA. Just a few years ago it was mandatory for an academic or journalist role that the candidate show a strong belief in The Science. Being a member of the Sierra Club was proof of that belief. Being a member of the Sierra Club now not so much. And suddenly climate skeptic is the new woke – look at Bill.

The club has morphed to a race discrimination fighter under the leadership of Ben Jealous. And when you think what wind and solar farms are doing to the environment, it is now wonder the true environmentalists are losing faith.

Ben Jealous has been forced out. When you see his upbringing it is quite obvious that he is focused on racial discrimination. His parents were dating in 1966 and could not be seen in public together. because they were different races. Jealous bought all that baggage to the Execustive Director’s role.

Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.

Figueres is perhaps the perfect person for the job of transforming “the economic development model” because she’s really never seen it work. “If you look at Ms. Figueres’ Wikipedia page,” notes Cato economist Dan Mitchell: Making the world look at their right hand while they choke developed economies with their left.

Who would have thought that letting people keep what they earn in a free open law abiding society would work??
These clowns need to be forced to live in socialist government run country, Venezuela, Cuba….Or better still forced to live by their mantra. Everything they earn is equally shared amongst everyone..lol

Oil rich Venezuela … so rich in oil it can tell the US where to go … until the US decides to invade to get the oil.

It’s not being socialist that is the problem … it’s having the guts to run the country for the people of that country and not as a puppet to supply oil to the US.

I looked up Mr Jealous, late of the Sierra Club. Why was he let go? It seems he “ exhibited a pattern of jealousy .” They can’t say they weren’t warned.

The usual figure quoted for the atmospheric concentration of CO2 is 270ppm on a molecular basis. But it might well have been 340ppm; see

Conflation with real pollution with global warming >climate change >climate crisis was a big part of their undoing. But that made it easier to sell to a largely scientific illiterate public. People are willing to get passionate about real poluution. CC became the flagship, because it was seen as the golden goose. But it was always flimsy, so it had to be hyped up more and more to keep the cash flowing. Since it did not happen after 45 years, people are starting to realize they have been had.

The names are getting weirder. A climate scientist called fudge and now the Sierra Club has an in-fighting crisis because of a guy called Ben Jealous. It’s all just a weird dream, I hope.

Back in 2007, we were told of a coming vast climate apocalypse. Which, on no account may be questioned. To be skeptical was virtual heresy. In 2025, if you aren’t asking questions, you must be on the take. Or simply a bit of a thickie!
