The world could heat 1C tomorrow and no one would care or notice. But if the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism Iran starts producing plutonium, no one will sleep again. I had not realised they were so close. That’s not enrichment or replacing carbon fuels, that’s WWIII in a briefcase.

It’s nice to see the UN has finally passed a resolution that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. That will fix it. A more useless organization would be hard to find, 80,000 people who want to blow up the power stations in democratic countries. Military dictatorships are exempt.

Hyped for decades but so what?
They’re backed by 3 superpowers with about 10k nukes.
Hey bro, can you spare one?
      Yup.
We all have around 20k nukes but dictate to sovereign countries they can’t have ONE.
      Not pro-Iran but anti-hypocrisy.
Not forgetting the only country to use nukes in wartime was the USA.

To say I can have nukes but you can’t is hypocritical.

But note the difference. The ones with the nukes saying Iran can’t have them, are not openly stating they wish to annihilate a nearby country.

It’s the same as the police have guns and decide who else can and can’t. The ones who can’t have demonstrated they can’t be trusted.

Or like a parent telling a child not to do something the parent regularly does because it’s not safe.

It might ultimately be hypocrisy. But it’s not unreasonable in the circumstance.

As for the US being the only ones to use nukes in wartime.
Key things. It was during wartime and the US was brought into the war through an unprovoked attack. Iran, on the other hand, is actively initiating attacks on Israel. Directly and by proxy. Not simply retaliating to an unprovoked attack.

Was the atomic bomb the wrong thing to do? That’s up for debate. But it shows those who can’t use them wisely shouldn’t have them.

I’m sick of apologists on the TV saying Iran’s enrichment program is only for energy production and medicine, not weapons. If that’s the case, why did they hide the centrifuges 300ft underground?

          Hi Yarpos,
          Let’s be quite, quite clear.
There is one reason, and one reason alone, why a nation would go to the trouble and expense to enrich Uranium in U-235 beyond the 60-percent figure, and to produce Uranium in considerable quantities at that level of enrichment.

So to suggest they buried the enrichment plant deep underground merely because other nations told them not to proceed with this exercise is, well, to betray a certain level of innocence.

          Regards,

          Paul Miskelly

I wanted to protest about a large 5G mast being placed in an area of outstanding natural beauty so did some research. I was surprised to discover there is still controversy over radiation from mobile phones and 5G. The EU had carried out some research and said the technology needed to be examined further before it was rolled out but of course it was too late.

This latest bit of research casts further doubt on POSSIBLE harm. Still not proven. However interesting to see it linked with rising cases of cancer amongst the young and that it can POSSIBLY affect fertility/sterility. That would explain a lot as the birth rate has slumped as the use of mobile phones has soared

    https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/at-last-they-admit-it-cell-phone-radiation-can-cause-cancer/

Still nothing definitive but 5G and the coming 6G should have been looked at in more depth before being rolled out.

I bought the book years ago. The correlation between Nicholas Cage movies and drownings in backyard pools is a favorite. And the correlation between CO2 and global Warming looks so silly. The graph of real thermometer temperatures for Europe alone is far more significant with 12 turning points and a major low in 1870 which can be confirmed from the press of the day. Not so most of the rest of the world where thermometers, even people did not exist as 74% of the planet is covered by water anyway.

You would have to think the invention of a ‘world’ temperature is simply to achieve some sort of upwards correlation with CO2. And being 99% derived from theory rather than measured, it is in violent disagreement with the thermometer data in the only place which had thermometers over the same period. So even the very poor correlation is manufactured, not measured. And in 38 years of atmospheric computer models, the computer predictions have been wrong. Warmest years ever have been declared over 0.01C.

At the same time, CO2 has been a near perfect straight line, unperturbed by anything mankind has done. Or any impact of 500,000 giant useless windmills with random power output.

It’s amazing that a government, any government can or should or needs to write such a law. America’s Second Amendment. The role of Westminster government is continually expanding its reach into our lives.

After defence and taxation, the growth of the government into social services, health, education, privacy and now speech is frightening. While not a bad law, it demonstrates the opposite can be legislated as easily, as with Australia’s e-safety commissioner or the faux human rights commissioners. The ability of Justin Trudeau to shut down the bank accounts of millions of people who simply disagreed with him was a watershed in absolute government control. Especially as he had no legal right to do so and the banks had no obligation to comply.

Contraction of the World’s Storm-Cloud Zones the Primary Contributor to the 21st Century Increase in the Earth’s Sunlight Absorption

    https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2025GL114882

Analysis of satellite observations shows that in the past 24 years the Earth’s storm cloud zones in the tropics and the middle latitudes have been contracting at a rate of 1.5%–3% per decade. This cloud contraction, along with cloud cover decreases at low latitudes, allows more solar radiation to reach the Earth’s surface. When the contribution of all cloud changes is calculated, the storm cloud contraction is found to be the main contributor to the observed increase of the Earth’s solar absorption during the 21st century.

And hot off the press https://eartharxiv.org/repository/view/9384/ This paper from Bangor Scientific and Educational Consultants – Confirming that Modern Global Warming is Predominantly Geomagnetically Driven and Seeking Other Drivers by Employing Latitudinal Bands. This goes a long way to confirming what a lot of us have been looking at for some time. “The hypothesis that most of modern warming is geomagnetically driven is tested and shown to be correct.” The fall in Earth’s magnetic field strength and the acceleration of magnetic pole movements screws with the energy balance of the planet. Nope, not in Alaska. Cold snaps during June are unusual but do happen.

Actually, Alaska would have the Midnight Sun this time of year, so would be warm and mild 24 hours.

This would be the reason for reduction of sea ice, too. Nothing to do with climate change.

A bit more info citing a previous paper – “The paper uniquely addressed both historic and modern warming and explained almost 90% of all post-industrial warming as seen in the GISTEMP v4 global average data set and it also simultaneously, seamlessly and successfully hindcast previous temperature changes for some 2000 years all without the need to involve CO2 or other GHGS in the model.” “In more detail, the theory advanced for most of the change was that as the pole moves northwards, energetic particle interactions (EEP) also change which has knock-on effects on polar stratospheric chemistry, the global electric circuit and hence global clouds and earth albedo.”

Gotta love living in Victoriastan, everything is so consistent.
So, if you are a farmer in this state, you are required by law to have biosecurity measures in place, signs warning that all visitors must register that they are on you property and the pain of penalties if these rules are not adhered to.
Victoria is currently in the process of passing laws that allow up to $12000.00 fines to be applied to any farmer that denies access to power line company employees . These power line company employees DO NOT need to seek permission to enter any property. Just another case of government over reach.
I’m sure the appropriate minister will make a public announcement saying that “community consultation ” took place

Therefore, we’re due a massive refund from the UN and the likes of Guterres, Greta & Gore can go [redacted] themselves.

Here is a question which someone may be able to answer.
This winter has started off quite cold with clear nights.
Ice forms on parked cars out in the street. Yet the overnight minimum, according to my nearest BOM station is still above freezing .

So do parked cars get colder than the adjacent air temperature? This morning was particularly interesting because 2 white cars had not frozen but a dark grey car next to them had ice on the roof and the windows. The overnight minimum temperature at my nearest BOM station was 2.7C at 0730, which was when I went out to check.

I am thinking that the cars must radiate heat into the clear morning air and get quite cold. Dew forms on the cold metal and windows of the cars and freezes.

    50

    • #
      KP

The air temperature, quite likely measured by satellite so ‘somewhere’ in the atmosphere, has very little reason to be the same temperature as a solid surface emitting its energy as radiation.
What’s the chance of any particular infrared photon getting clear of the atmosphere without hitting an atom that absorbs it along the way. If nitrogen and oxygen are quite transparent to infra-red radiation they can retain their thermal energy while the emitted radiation escapes into space and cools a metal. Maybe the lag is considerable, but eventually you’d expect the air temp to match the car’s temp.

I see the same with the grass outside, ice on all the plants yet the BOM minimum temps not below freezing. Would a horizontal mercury thermometer lying outside covered in ice read the same as their official one in its insulating box?

Definitely black cars absorb and emit faster than white ones, physics is quite racist.

Faulty Door Locks Could Lead To Fallout

When it comes to recalls of cars sold in America, Ford, Stellantis, and Tesla led the way in 2024 with the most.

This year, Ford may retake the title. It recently issued a single recall for almost 1.1 million vehicles, and now there’s a new one that affects 197,432 Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers in America and another 120,000-odd from other markets.

According to the recall documents filed with the NHTSA, the problem occurs when the vehicle has a low 12-volt battery, and then “the electronic door latches may remain locked once the driver or front passenger exits and shuts the door.” If a child is left in the car when this happens, they may be unable to take advantage of the inner door release handles.

Worse still, the car may still not unlock when the 12-V battery is jumped. One Mustang Mach-E Forum user reported that his infant was locked in the car for 40 minutes because of this same sort of problem.

While Ford works on a remedy, it has issued a stop-sale recall, so there are likely still affected units at dealers.

A Simple Fix, But A Long Wait

Thankfully, the fault lies in the vehicle’s software, so this won’t require a physical fix at the dealer. Ford will update the affected 2021-2025 EVs’ powertrain control module and secondary on-board diagnostic control module C software at no cost, and owners should expect notification letters to be mailed on June 23.

Once Ford has figured out exactly what to do, it will send a second letter, but unfortunately, the automaker only expects the fix to be ready on September 29.

On the surface, software seems like something that shouldn’t only go wrong when the car reaches users, but test engineers don’t usually test new cars with old or weak 12V batteries. Ford’s general quality problems will take years to fix

Jo just said that a “power cord” from a demolished wind tower might be reused. Considering that new tower is (always?) so much larger does it mean that original cable was grossly oversized? If so, does that oversizing continues all the way through the farm and grid?
A minor detail maybe but are those wind gusts which drive output to nearly nameplate value statistically long ? Like an hour or two?

    40

    • #
      Hanrahan

Wind is a finite resource. A pic in Jo’s article on “repowering” showed an example of a line of 13 small towers being replaced by three larger ones. Being taller they get better wind but I suspect any gains achieved would effect capacity factor more than peak power.

There is a limit of electricity from turbines per square kilometre – sorry but I have forgotten it. But adding more turbines causes interference between them, so they have to be spaced out. The larger the turbine the less that can be installed per sq. kilometre.
A taller turbine will get “better wind” but there is a limit to their numbers. And taller units face stronger winds, hence higher construction & maintenance costs.

the direct land use for wind turbines comes in at three-quarters of an acre per megawatt of rated capacity. That is, a 2-megawatt wind turbine would require 1.5 acres of land.
        https://www.sciencing.com/much-land-needed-wind-turbines-12304634/

They found a rough average of 4 megawatts per square kilometer (about 10 megawatts per square mile). So a 2-megawatt wind turbine would require a total area of about half a square kilometer (about two-tenths of a square mile).

Rainfall data for BOM’s Perth weather station is suspect of late. Last week there were no half-hourly records for 3 days, just a 24hour reading. Overnight, when it is raining, the half-hourly data flat lined at 10 pm at 17.2 mm and is still stuck there at 8 am. This is despite the rain radar showing precipitation most of the night. As a check the nearby weather station at Perth AirPort shows increasing readings through the night and is 10 mm more than the Perth station which is actually in Mt Lawley near to ECU. So the question remains: what does BOM do when there is clearly an issue with its gauge metering system. Do they ignore the fault and later tell us that Perth has lower rainfall because of climate change, or do they average the nearby station data and present it as “fact”. Of interest is the fact that the “Perth” station has moved location over the decades. At one time it was closer to the coast where sea breezes would have been more pronounced giving the impression that Perth temperatures have increased over the decades.

The (D) base will believe it is happening. Nothing is too absurd to imagine Trump doing it.

BTW Where did they get the money for that? I thought they were broke.

Didn’t the Senator sniff her hair at the end? Do they think all men in power do that?

    Happy solstice indeed.

So it is our shortest day which, logically, should be the depths of winter but that, officially, only starts today. I think this is odd but I’m just a mechy/techy.

“I think this is odd .”

Pasture plants, at least here in Godzone , find the idea quite absurd.

As if sunlight is not the driving force for growth.

The “garbage” data packages were delivered across multiple destination ports on the victim’s system, averaging 21,925 ports per second and peaking at 34,517 ports/second.

Austria’s Left Pushes for Jail Time For Those Opposing Trans Surgeries For Minors

According to a report by ServusTV, a draft bill promoted by the SPÖ (Social Democrats) and Neos (Liberals) parties would impose penalties of up to €30,000 or one year in jail on anyone who questions a minor’s “gender transition”—including parents, doctors, or psychologists. In other words, simply advising caution regarding an irreversible decision could lead to criminal liability.

BLM Org Asks ‘White Folks’ For Juneteenth Reparations As Finances Fizzle

“Commit yourselves to real reparations policies that hold accountable the government, white-supremacist capitalism, and white people — who continue to benefit from our generations of stolen labor,” the press release states. “Slide your Black friend some benjamins. Make a check out to Black liberation organizations, like BLM Grassroots.”

“The gods are smiling on us.”

No, they are laughing themselves stupid! They know it will take decades to get political permission to do anything with it, endless reports, environmental studies, stakeholders conferences, local community consultation, changes of Govt, Court orders, High Court decisions… it will be forgotten about by then!.

Only ruinables get a fast-track and exemptions from all the laws meant to stop them doing what they do!

FWIW – the dark underside of illegal immigration –

“DECONSTRUCTING THE NYT: “The quote is presented in a context that feels intended to generate empathy for those who’ve been affected by the ‘increasingly aggressive raids.’ But that ‘landscaper’ — that is, person in the landscaping business — was, apparently, competing unfairly with anyone in that business who is dutifully following federal law and not hiring those in the country illegally.” ”

“I know of one landscaper that lost the whole crew he had, and he is just totally out of business, all of a sudden.”

That quote is featured at the beginning of yesterday’s NYT “Daily” podcast, An Interview With Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan.”

Its been 34 orbits, or 50hours in a cramped space capsule, to get to the ISS. Then they developed a 4-orbit system that takes 6hours, and people can suffer space sickness in the comfort of the station. Finally they can get it down to a 2-orbit system, but the problems are interesting-
