Yet another climate change heavyweight abandons ship
It’s the beginning of the end of the renewables fantasy, but there will be no apology — no admission they were wrong, or that thousands upon millions of people have suffered because of climate sorcery.
Watch as the billionaire who lectured us from private jets, pivots into word salad. Now he says we still have to solve climate change (whatever that means), but the doomsday view is wrong, and that awful carbon pollution “will not be the end of civilization.” He’s suddenly turned into a kind of Bjorn Lomborg. Forget Mitigation, say hello to Adaptation.
On the cusp of COP30 in Brazil, Bill Gates has launched a life raft for his reputation — a 17 page memo called Three tough truths about climate.
Bill Gates can see what’s coming (a reckoning for the renewables debacle), and he is repositioning himself so he doesn’t go down with the ship. Indeed, he’s almost writing an escape plan for the whole Blob. In a nutshell, he’s admitting between the lines that wind and solar power are unaffordable, and since climate change won’t actually be that catastrophic, everyone should calm down while we invent technologies, and in the mean time, get back to stopping people from starving. Wouldn’t you know, he says “Health and prosperity are the best defense against climate change.” (That’s Truth #3 ).
What he’s not saying is that he and his friends wasted untold billions (maybe trillions) of dollars of our money installing wind and solar panels which aren’t very good. He is not joining those dots.
We still need that breakthrough mythical technology to save us from the climate monster.
Three tough truths about climate
by Bill Gates
…though climate change will have serious consequences—particularly for people in the poorest countries—it will not lead to humanity’s demise. People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future. Emissions projections have gone down, and with the right policies and investments, innovation will allow us to drive emissions down much further.
Unfortunately, the doomsday outlook is causing much of the climate community to focus too much on near-term emissions goals, and it’s diverting resources from the most effective things we should be doing to improve life in a warming world.
He’s still painting himself as a savior, of course:
If given a choice between eradicating malaria and a tenth of a degree increase in warming, Gates told reporters, “I’ll let the temperature go up 0.1 degree to get rid of malaria. People don’t understand the suffering that exists today.” –– AP News
Now, at long last, he says the first priority should be to prevent suffering in the here and now. Which is all very noble, but where were you Bill for the last ten years when people in Africa needed coal plants — you were telling them to invest in wind and solar.
Compare this to Bill Gates in 2021:
“The countries that build great zero-carbon companies and industries will be the ones that lead the global economy in the coming decades.”
–Bill Gates, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster

Bill Gates
Bill Gates set up Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) “the future of energy” in 2015 and often put in a star performance at the UN COP Junkets.
Only a few short years ago climate change was going to be awful in our lifetimes according to Bill:
-
-
-
Unless we move fast toward zero, bad things (and probably many of them) will happen well within most people’s lifetime, and very bad things will happen within a generation.”
-
“In other words, by mid-century, climate change could be just as deadly as COVID-19, and by 2100 it could be five times as deadly.”
-
-
Between the lines Bill Gates is admitting the wind and solar experiments were a waste of money
The tough truth he dances around is that we don’t have a realistic way to get to Net Zero yet, we still need those breakthroughs. This is a polite way of saying that we wasted lots of money, and made life tougher for poor people.
Sometimes the world acts as if any effort to fight climate change is as worthwhile as any other. As a result, less-effective projects are diverting money and attention from efforts that will have more impact on the human condition: namely, making it affordable to eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions and reducing extreme poverty with improvements in agriculture and health.
What he doesn’t say is that the UN doesn’t care less about the poor, it’s just a vehicle for dictators and corporations to profit or sabotage competitors. That’s why they are jumping up and down over the best managed reef in the world, and not spending more time talking about the murder of Christians in Nigeria.
The big shift away from climate dogma
This is the Big-pivot away from Climate Doom, the obsession with a tiny 0.14°C of warming (per decade) and wind and solar subsidy harvesting:
Truth #1: Climate Change is a serious problem but it won’t be the end of civilization.
Truth #2: Temperature is not the best way to measure our progress on climate.
Truth #3: Health and prosperity are the best defense against climate change.
Expect The Blob to spend less time talking about temperatures and 1.5 degrees of warming, and more time talking about quality of life suddenly.
The New York Times makes out that it is a bit controversial, but really, we’ll solve climate change faster if we stop harping on about the prophesies of doom. Optimism, they now say, is the most effective way to motivate people.
Bill Gates Says Climate Change ‘Will Not Lead to Humanity’s Demise’
by David Gelles, New York Times
This is the man who wrote How to Avoid a Climate Disaster only 4 years ago. In it “Gates explains why the world must completely eliminate greenhouse gas emissions (“getting to zero”), rather than simply reducing them.” — Wikipedia
Feel the Quickening: the green retreat is accelerating
As I said before, The Australian conservatives could end up being the last people on Earth still endorsing Net Zero.

Well, if this mob of fanatics are abandoning this,
what worser thing have they got planned for us?
570
Batteries everywhere!
Imagine just how difficult it will become to regulate electricity supply & demand on ANY grid connected to a few GW of tiny batteries run by householders. Try impossible.
We are yet again subsidizing billionaires to destroy our power source by voting for idiots who bribe the well-off with our money. Pink batts yet again.
The management of batteries is yet another government regulated business. What could go wrong?
320
Given the Rapid Decline in Apple iPhone Batteries in Recharging.
To Paraphrase Gough Whitlam “Well may we say ‘God save the Queen’, because nothing will save the Governor-General”.
“Well may we say ‘God save Labor & Blackout Bowen’, because nothing will save Australia”.

Gates abandoned global warming because every recent poll in the US indicates it is a losing issue for the Democrats. Not an issue that is not important to Americans – that happened long ago but rather it is a “losing” issue for the Left. The rest of the Party will eventually get the news as well.
So even Communists and Socialists and other Orwellian minded $Billionaires eventually smell the coffee.
In addition, Trump is rightly throwing all the climate change nonsense in the toilet. So the money and the interest in global warming is a goner in the US.
Gates will now move on to other things. He is a pest like his wife Melinda and eventually he will be gone.
250
He is getting ready to sell us some more useless vaccine, probably one that cures malaria. The trouble is most people likely to catch malaria are poor so his profits will be less. Maybe he has been to Wuhan and knows there is another animal borne virus on its way. Regardless, he is a man not to be trusted. Even his wife did a runner although I suspect she is not sleeping in a car or under a bridge.
70
He nominated health. He’s been there before. Everybody will switch to health when AGW finally dies. And the COVIDVAXX may show the biggest scam of allll.
30
The money is gone so Gates has moved on.

Funny how this revelation suddenly occurs just after recommissioning a shuttered power site in Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant. When will Black-Out Bowen wake up that the future is nuclear and not solar panels?
420
Why have cheap, reliable electricity, when you can cover ever more remote chunks of land with silicon and glass at ever increasing pole and wire cost?
It would be nice if someone (Jo?) wrote a piece on the ever decreasing costs of installing nuclear that China in particular has achieved by simply serially building the same design over and over.. Now heading below $2(US) per installed watt.
Even plants like Hinkley C are only $30 per installed watt, and have CF over 90%, compared to wind and solar ever decreasing CF.
280
Somebody, somewhere, somehow, needs to educate the public about nuclear power generation. I wonder how the majority actually picture the process. The only part of the system, very basically is a kettle producing steam to drive perfectly normal turbines. How do the majority picture it?? They’re vey easily led to believe that there’s radiation bowing freely in the wind, contaminating everything & everybody. The electricity generated isn’t contaminated.
How do the new compact modular reactors function? I certainly don’t know because government & their pals in the media won’t tell.
What happens to spent fuel ( waste ) & how much waste is produced over a given time.
I do know the waste can be recycled & a percentage of it re used. I also know that ash from coal fired generation plants are measured in thousands of tons & have limited use .
Educate the public. I have suggested that the opposition run an education program but that’s a hopeless cause as the opposition support W & S just as much as the ALP / Green coalition! We’re running out of time folks! If this crazy net zero mob carry on we’re looking at a nasty, messy, impoverished future.
250
I like the molten salt reactors even better than the boiling water/pressurised water reactors.
Everything inside the nuclear containment vessel is at or near atmospheric pressure. There just isn’t a driving force to eject radioactive material from the core. Only problem is the corrosive nature of molten salt. Better material selection and accessible/replaceable parts is the key.
If the public could understand this, then nuclear would be on everyone’s solution path. And Bowen would be just swaying in the breeze.
190
You can talk up nuclear until you’re blue in the face, so to speak. Unless the federal legislation BANNING nuclear power generation is overturned, nothing will happen. Which is all the LNP need to do. Forget doing fact finding missions to Korea or putting together grandiose plans for siting of theoretical nuclear plants, just say “When we are in government, we will overturn the nuclear energy ban legislation”. That’s it- they could almost win an election based on that alone.
150
Graham, and anyone interested,
Back in 2009, after I had been doing this for more than a year, my home site’s owner asked me if I could do a series on Nuclear Power Generation just by itself.
Umm, easier said than done.
It turned into an 11 Part Series, and I tried to cover it all in as much depth as possible.
As I mentioned it’s dated 2009, so is now 16 years dated.
However, the principles are still the same, even if the tech was 2009, and does not include anything recent.
If any do wish to read here’s the link.
Nuclear Electrical Power Generation – Why The Fuss? – Introduction
As shown, this is an Introductory Post only.
At the bottom of this Intro are links and a shortish title of what that Part is about for those 11 Parts in the Series.
While some information is now hopelessly out of date, the basics remain the same.
Tony.
220
‘We’re running out of time folks!’
Too many obstacles for nuclear power in the short term, gas and Hele coal fired power is the cheapest and best option.
Six years ago the Saltbush Club said we are getting nowhere with the argument that the science is biased and corrupt, so they changed tactics and focussed on the cost of renewables and lunacy of net zero.
Overall it has been good strategy, but to win the next election we need a political champion to explain simply that CO2 does not cause global warming.
He will need at least half a dozen qualified and respected scientists to back him up.
142
Which is the exact same model France used nearly 50 years ago.
It works.
It shouldn’t have taken half-a-century for someone to try and replicate their success and China shouldn’t have been the first country to adapt the French nuclear model.
Meanwhile in Germany, home of the highest electricity prices in continental Europe, they are blowing up old nuclear plants to ensure that they are never brought back online.
https://www.eugyppius.com/p/in-germany-we-have-the-highest-electricity
190
Nigel makes a good point here:
This actually is the case, and here I’ll use New tech coal fired power as an example.
With the UltraSuperCritical (USC) coal fired power, the Chinese actually got the ‘big guys’, (In this case GE) to come in and construct the first couple of them, while the Chinese, umm, looked on and ‘took notes’.
From that point onwards, the Chinese then did everything themselves, and just paid a ‘Royalty’ (best guess for what to call it) back to GE for every plant constructed from that point forwards, and I mean everything, construction plants for all equipment, turbines, generators etc, the lot.
GE’s largest ‘entity’ outside of the U.S. is in China, and that is monumentally humungous, stranded assets nyuk nyuk nyuk and all that.
The same has happened with Advanced USC.
The Chinese then, by themselves developed the technology to retrofit older coal fired plants with USC technology. The small coal fired plants, 2MW up to 100MW all got demolished as the larger USC plants came on line. And larger old tech plants 200MW to 660MW were retrofitted, and here, the Chinese are the World Leaders in doing this, as they actually did all the work themselves.
The Chinese did exactly the same with Hydro, and here that was with Siemens, build the first few with the ‘parent’, and from then on, do it all themselves.
I have no qualms in saying that the same happened with Nuclear plants as well.
And you can only guess as to how cheap they (all of them) are to construct in China, not out of lowest bidder etc, but they just get it done more cheaply in China, while we here in our (supposedly) Developed World cannot even get close to doing it anywhere near as cheaply.
And now the Chinese are taking this technology to a number of other Countries as well.
Tony.
280
The Chinese have the world’s most efficient coal power station, and also the world’s largest.
60
When green tape and red tape are minimal or non-existent then strangely costs and delays are miraculously significantly less.
Ask the Chinese to build the same designs in Australia (hypothetically) and it would be a different story unless Albo gives some ‘mates-rates’ incentives.
90
Wait, you mean we’re not all going to die in a fiery Venus like CO2 heater?
Or a massive flood.
Or drought?
Or we on forever flood or forever drought now, I forget?
Anyway good news.
Can I stop wearing a mask now?
Oh wait, that’s something different.
Oh yeah, Trump is ending democracy.
I think we only have five years.
Children born today will never know democracy.

Forgive me for jumping the queue/line, but in a CNN story repeated by RNZ this morning, the very last paragraph stated:
“There is no greater threat to developing nations than the climate crisis,” said Michael Mann. “He’s [Bill Gates] got this all backwards.”
Why do I not trust a single word any of these ****s utter.
240
Agreed. So far from Mann’s words Gates has not got it backwards. And from Gates words the climate scare is about to be superseded by another means of oppressing the masses and harvesting power and profit.
I am so glad that I lived most of my life before computers sped everything up. Even though I didn’t appreciate it at the time.
170
Is that Green panic we can smell? Wind tower development will suddenly cease too! Farmers with these monstrosities embedded on their land will soon realise they will carry the can for removal and rehabilitation!
380
Just a mention of towers across their land has already reduced the value enormously, lock the gates lads.
131
Perhaps the repurpose the tower concrete pad as a base for a “high” observation tower? Being able to see a long way does attract tourists. And at one time fire watchers.
Might work for one out of a hundred.
20
This past Thursday at lunch when the subject came up a person asked, none too politely, if I didn’t agree with 97% of scientists about global warming. I immediately, none too politely, got up and left.
I have long thought that Gates was lucky, not smart.
I also, wonder if the money of the ex-Gates Melinda and ex-Bezos MacKenzie will transition away from climate disaster to real issues.
320
Bill Gates still wrong. Still not admitting he has been scammed.
Trump is in a very small group of national leaders who know it is a scam. I would like to know if Plimer is his “climate” advisor. How many other long term skeptics were at his Florida home on election eve. Plimer may go down in history as one of the greatest Australians. Advising Trump to call out the scam. Trump has been more forthright this term than last term.
Maybe Plimer will write another book on his role in advising Trump. Trump remains the most visible and powerful human providing leadership in science. Cutting out the socialist rot that pervades academia. 88% of US academics in US vote Democrat – no equity there.
560
I’d missed the fact that Plimer had been there. That reinforces my already high regard for the man and his tenacity.
Many thanks Professor Plimer.
310
Agreed on Plimer but somehow I don’t believe Gates was scammed. More like he benefited immensely from the scam.
140
He was scammed. He is not that bright.
60
I am currently reading Ian Plimer’s very long book, Green Murder, personally signed by him (sorry, had to boast!). I am about half way through. The first section was on the geological history of our changing climate, which was fascinating. The very long section I am in now is called “we are all going to die” where he describes the climate scares going back into Greek and Roman times and working up to the present day. It is quite incredible how many peoples, governments and charlatans over the ages have used climate for their own ends – there is nothing new in what we are experiencing now, but it is world wide and is destroying economies on a scale not seen before.
I was not aware that Ian had been, is, involved with Trump and his current agression against what he sees as a world wide con. I wish Ian would do the same for us. I have already suggested to Advance that they use Plimer to help design their upcoming anti-net zero campaign. Maybe he is!
130
It’s like they decided that the Sydney Harbour Bridge was no good so they built a parallel bridge out of gold leaf which looked brilliant and never corroded and was perfect for people on electric scooters but they belatedly realised it could not carry cars, trucks or busses, and everyone north of the harbour lost their business and job so they stopped building the parallel bridge after wasting eight bazillion dollars and sent everyone back onto the old bridge.
351
Fantastic analogy.
150
And that’s how government work.
It’s not a fault, it’s a feature.
160
Why would we listen to this loony fool when he hasn’t listened to logic and reason for decades and couldn’t care less about data and evidence?
I prefer to follow sensible people who understand the last 300 K years and particularly the last 200 + years.
It’s all there, so why not check it out and draw the very obvious conclusions?
370
As long as there’s a vocal core of “useful idiots” supporting the Climate Scam ( tm), it’s going to take a lot of time (and therefore more money lining pockets) to change course politically.
Last week on Twi(X), I had a brief argument about the Climate Scam, in a thread started by Elon, with a user going by the handle “kWhDealer”, who was thoroughly prepared to have a “data driven” discussion.
When I, quite reasonably, started by pointing out most carbon dioxide is from natural sources and water is the dominant greenhouse gas, “Dealer” stepped through the Scammers playbook.
First. I was “expressing an opinion”, then it was hinting he knows something using big words, but with no facts to support the inference, then finally questioning my “politics”.
After highlighting the steps are straight out of a scammers playbook and involved no facts, I was rewarded with the ultimate acknowledgement of success: silence.
These people are the core believers, who have so much personally invested, in emotional, financial and intellectual terms that they can never be persuaded, merely sidelined.
340
in emotional, financial and intellectual terms that they can never be persuaded, merely sidelined.

However almost never totally sidelined

Never trust a seemingly reformed Leftist.
They can’t just alter a whole life based on lies overnight.
They must demonstrate their sincerity through actions not just words, and they must make reparations for the harm they have already done, at substantial economic and social cost to themselves.
340
Perhaps he could demonstrate his honest intentions by paying for the removal of the junk at the Altamonte wind farm and bringing it all back to what nature originally had there.
210
Yes. Including the removal of the concrete foundations.
Then I’d like to see him send Leftists to places like Nepal and other places in Asia and Africa to personally pick up rubbish and teach locals not to litter.
170
>Never trust a seemingly reformed Leftist.
“What sickens me about left-wing people, especially the intellectuals, is their utter ignorance of the way things actually happen.”
George Orwell
170
Ah, so the money well is drying up.
250
I don’t think it is about money. He has more thann he can ever need.
It is about his immortality.
Gates has likely had his future robotic body prepared but needs the means to transfer his consciousness into it. He needs Quantum Computing AI to create that technology and QCAI needs lots of energy.

A fool and his money are soon separated, comes to mind. Now that he has left the relative safety of computer land, the man is floundering. Don’t forget he’s also lost a lot of money promoting Fake Meat. But if you’ve got a gazillion dollars what’s a few lost billion $. Not much in comparison. Basically, he’s spending that money to avoid non relevance syndrome. I’ve always hated him, ever since he pirated the Apple operating system.
200
It’s a long time ago but I don’t think it was Apple’s operating system he stole.
Not that I believe everything that bing says but on this issue it rings true “The system’s roots trace back to QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System), also known as 86-DOS, developed by Tim Paterson at Seattle Computer Products (SCP)”
In fact there was a time when Gates propped Apple up to keep it from going out of business because he feared the consequences of M$ having a monopoly.
Not all that bright but the most highly commercial rat cunning ever seen.
111
Considering the “interesting” climatic shifts that have visited our little planet over. events that make anything he eco-Nazis dreamed up pale into insignificance. Also, COLD has and continues to kill more people than “heat” through the aeons
Feral volcanoes filling the sky with so much reflective dust that sunlight was seriously attenuated. Think: Years without Summer.
ALL before the invention of the steam or internal-combustion engine.
Then there are the “cosmic” encounters. The arrival, at 40,000 Km/H, of large lumps of rock or accretions of rock and ice that punched holes through the crust. Such primary events toss vast amounts of light-restricting detritus into the upper atmosphere. The resultant shock wave bounces around UNDER the crust and the planet rings like a bell, resulting in an outbreak of serious vulcanism across the globe.
The crustal plates also blunder about altering oceanic currents, building vast mountain ranges, subducting land and sea-bed under other continents an. All of this has only really become documented and studied in the last couple of centuries. How much MORE don’t we know about how much we don’t know about EVERYTHING
220

In 1950 46.4 years, Pop 2.5 billion.
Today 73.4 years, pop 8.2 + billion.

170
Meanwhile Australia’s utterly clueless “opposition” “leader” still thinks she needs to consult with “experts” to decide if anthropogenic “climate change” is real or not or an issue or not.
Well, she certainly won’t get a taxpayer-funded acientist to tell her the truth, only the Official Narrative. Leftists sack/fire and censor people who disagree with them. She’ll have to find an independent expert who is not dependent on taxpayer/Government funding, like Jo etc..
390
The general erudition of politicians is poor. Well, they have acquired the ability to form up when in front of interviews and press conferences but looking at them for a while they seem to lack much epistemic substance.
140
Perhaps she should talk to Trump’s mate, as mentioned by RickWill above at #8:

I have an opinion here that like others who have suddenly seemingly ‘jumped ship’, they have, at last, actually asked the ‘right’ questions, and the, umm, advisors (now knowing their pay packet is not in jeopardy) have told them exactly what types of power generation are actually required for ‘exactly’ what is needed.
I know I harp on about way back, when I started all of what I do, but ….. before I did start it all, I also believed that wind and solar power generation COULD do what was claimed at the time ….. replace coal fired power as large scale reliable power generation.
It was only after I did really prolonged ‘deep dive’ research that I realised just how useless wind and solar were. Luckily, my trade knowledge background helped here, but only because it enabled me to understand what I was looking at. Even then, I was reluctant (to the nth degree) to put ‘pen to paper’ and write about it, because I still had the feeling I was missing something important, and I would very soon be found out.
See the correlating point here?
People like Bill Gates have advisors, who tell them all this stuff. Unless those advisors actually have the requisite background knowledge, then those advisors also believe wind and solar are okay ….. just like I believed at first. After all, electric power is just electric power, no matter where it comes from, eh!
Only difference here, now, is that Bill Gates is Bill Gates, so this has an embarrassment factor involved.
It’s that same all over. I’m sanguine enough to think they didn’t do all this out of malice, but have just been advised incorrectly by people who ‘didn’t know’, and now are slowly coming to the ‘correct’ realisation, and are now asking the correct questions to the right people.
Well, except for Bowen, anyway!
Tony.

Google Deal With NextEra Will Restart Iowa Nuclear Plant In 2029
For the better part of the last 2 years, growing electricity needs from artificial-intelligence data centers are pushing tech giants back toward nuclear power.
On Monday, NextEra Energy and Google announced a deal to restart the Duane Arnold Energy Center near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which closed in 2020 after 45 years of operation.
The 615-megawatt plant is expected to return to service in early 2029 under a 25-year power purchase agreement with Google, Reuters reported.
120
The facility is about 9 miles NW of Cedar Rapids
42.10137, -91.7778
and appears to have land to the West covered with solar panels. We lived 25 miles south of there but left at about the time the plant became operational.
30
Tony,
You know as well I do that Bill Gates & his ilk are just like the wind they favour.
Gates, his ilk & the wind always change direction & always will. It’s for that same reason that wind energy is unreliable, unpredictable and always will be.
Gates & his ilk are not to be trusted or believed, like their beliefs he & his ilk ARE the scam personified!
180
The only question Bill Gates has asked is this: “why are my profits dropping?” And all that has happened is that he’s now realised that he personally is being hit by all the insane policies that he was pushing.
Bill Gates couldn’t care less what Nut Zero did to others … as long as he was making money from it.
70
Tony
Most find it very hard to admit their stupidity. It’s an ego thing. So they admit to being half wrong only.
150
Human nature is weird. Mostly, we will forgive people for being wrong, no matter how bad the “wrong” was. But, if someone takes a right stand on a controversial subject and is proven later correct, that person is usually not forgiven.
160
I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
50
FG – not aimed at you!
A response to that is
“True. You were – many times!”
50
I estimate that I’m wrong 50% of the time. That estimate is based on how much people believed was “right” in the 18th and 19th centuries which has now been overturned. I would suggest that most sceptics are also around that level. Which is quite sobering when we realise that the world also has people like Bill Gates and politicians who are wrong a lot more than us.

I posted about the 27% increased risk of cancer shown in the largest study of those who took the jab versus those that did not. If I had taken the jab, my immediate reaction would be: “we need more research to find out what caused it and what can be done about it.”
In contrast, the overwhelming reaction of the group where I posted it, was, without even reading the peer reviewed paper, to deny the research. I can understand people ignoring their health, but what bugs me, is that the people who took the jab went nuts about covid when it was actually a similar risk to flu, yet they cannot be bothered by a massive increase in the risk of cancer. They were obsessed by covid … now they have absolutely no interest in their health either now or the future.

NetZero is another global money grubbing scam that has almost run its course. What form will the next scam take? One given is that the usual scammers like Bill Gates, the WEF and the UN will be heavily involved and that they will co-opt governments and useful idiots to help them fuel their insatiable greed.

I’m not sure why I am optimistic but somehow one of the seven deadly sins will bring the current bad guys undone.
My money is on a combination of pride and greed.
And that of course raises the question of what the computer powered next generation of bad guys will come up with.
As I asked the other day where’s a Carrington event when you need one?

Independent Dutch researchers Hessel Vortman and Rob de Vos have just found that SLR is about 1.5 mm a year or about 6 inches per century and that’s the same as the 20th century SLR.
SLR is the big spooky, scary thing that has leftwing loonies screaming for more money to WASTE on their BS and con tricks.
And B O Bowen and the clueless Albo will hold out as long as they can and waste TRILLIONs of $ on the unreliable, toxic W & S lunacy forever.
And they’ll also destroy thousands of klms of our pristine environments, because they refuse to understand and then follow proper data and evidence.

Hessel does work all around the world and really understands SLs.

The Australian Comment Moderators will still not allow any mention of “He who must be Obeyed – Vlodemort”
on The Bureau of Meteorology has “lost community confidence” following its bungled website rollout, Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen says.
The new $4m website has attracted widespread criticism with many users complaining it is difficult to navigate, while its rollout coincided with a particularly extreme bout of weather across the country.
Asked about the matter on Wednesday, Mr Bowen said the change had eroded support for the organisation and backed Environment Minister Murray Watt’s handling of the fallout.

Old BOM Site still exists – https://reg.bom.gov.au/
Therefore Roll back from New Useless Site is extremely Simple – Just Rollback to existing Old BOM Site
Yet again comment not posted – Why does The Australian & Their Comment Moderators, not want Their The Australian Subscibers to know the Old BOM Site Still Exists?

The moderators for all those MSM newspapers tend to be the same. One of the main reasons for moderations appears to be “getting ahead of the story”. That is, if you’ve done a little research (lets face it, for most people a Google search or a bit of an internet deep dive) which might finalise a story too quickly by commenting, it wont be presented. I think the MSM like to get the most out of stories still and provide copy for a at least a couple of days. That was true in the old days, when us plebs had minimal information resources, but still persists today. Basically, they don’t like you being a smart arse.
70
Interesting observation. What all is said and done dumb arses don’t like smart arses. But does anybody I ask? Doing my best not to be a smart arse.
All this talk about arses reminds me I must get off mine and go for a walk.

Ross,
Interesting, I had Jo’s Article Bits on Bill Gates up in comments, before The Australian then had an Article on Bill Gates
Climate change won’t end civilisation, Bill Gates says
A long memo written by the tech billionaire has been seen as a pivot by the major backer of green technologies, and comes days ahead of the COP30 climate summit in Brazil.

However The Sydney Moaning Herald Does!
The old site is still available at: https://reg.bom.gov.au/

And even in a Main Article – The $4.1 million question: How did the BOM get its new website so wrong?

Trouble with Lomborg and now Gates is that they are fence-sitters; climate change is serious but not an existential threat. Lomborg has talked some sense over the years about adaptation and the economic side of things, but he seems reticent to join enough dots and remains in the pro climate change camp.
50
Nothing like countering an ‘appeal to authority’ fallacy as an ‘appeal to NON-authority’.
Whereas, if you had 97% of climate scientists expressing EVIDENCE BASED doubt …..
80
What will Grumpy Greta say now?
“HOW DARE YOU change your mind!”
or “Ah sh#t, I can’t find a job now”.
131
Or possibly that she is ecstatic that her dreams weren’t stolen after all followed by a quick “never mind”.
After the gaza episode she’s on a hat trick of lost causes.
Choose wisely not so young doom goblin!

I can forgive an autistic schoolgirl being hoodwinked by the media and getting it wrong on the climate.
What I cannot forgive is much older people who have seen the blatant lies of the media on every subject including climate and so should know a lot better, now clapping on the media led campaign of murder of children and civilians of the Holy land, by a group of religious zealots from Europe invading other people’s lands and ethnically cleansing the real people of the Holy land.
Being a sceptic does not mean you pick and choose which media lies to believe. It means you check out all stories, whether you want them to be true or not. And there is no doubt that Greta … whether by mistake or not, was right to support the Palestinians, even if she was totally wrong on the climate,
22
Quite so Mike. However, I would differentiate between support for Palestinians and support for Hamas.
It’s the same the world over. For example, I am full of admiration for the Chinese people. Their government however is scheming and evil.
10
What the Australian Conservatives want to conserve are their investments in the renewables scam.
80
Not so sure that anybody with any sense does not want to conserve their investments.

I can recommend “the Health Hazards of NOT going Nuclear” by Dr Petr Beckman.

So why is our climate so benign today or after the start of the Industrial Revolution?
The recent near vertical population climb is amazing compared to the last 2000 years and 10000 years.
How come so called climate scientists and pollies and MSM and big business and unions and assorted urgers call this incredible benign period an existential threat, or crisis or emergency?
Just look at the vertical population graphs after the Ind REV and ask why don’t they understand the data?

Wow. Any chance of Bill now writing a treatise titled “Three tough truths in vaccines”?
70
Just ticking off the days on my calendar to Albanese’s announcement that “hiz gubbermint” is going to bin Net Zero. I fully expect the “Main Scheme Meeja” to simultaneously start running non-stop stories and ‘opinion pieces’ on how it was all Tony Abbot’s fault.
And all with impeccably straight faces.
Watchya gunna do then, Sussan?

So why are people so much richer today and particularly in wealthy western countries like USA, Canada, Australia, NZ and Western Europe?
But all countries are much better off today and hopefully all other countries will catch up in time.
This is the GDP per capita for all countries 1820 to 2022 and compared in 2011 $ terms.
https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/gdp-per-capita-maddison-project-database?tab=line
30
I think average life expectancy would be a better measure than GDP.
Even Bhutan created an alternative measure. GDH….
OK there is no one good measure
How about someone measure countries with limited government the guiding measure?

Here I would have to defend Bill Gates. This is great news. He was a real high risk pioneer who changed our world and was richly rewarded and has sought to spend his money wisely. I bought his inventions long before IBM turned up at his front door and Dr. Gary Kildall refused to land his plane and talk. So leading CP/M became MSDOS became PCDOS became Windows. And his wealth of other tools prior to MSDOS have been a gift to the world of computing which is nothing in itself but has made computers available to everyone. Spreadsheets, wordprocessors, databases, programming languages and more. In a world of mind bogglingly rapid change, Microsoft programs I wrote in 1975 still work today.
We have all benefited immeasurably from his genius, very hard work, dedication and business acumen. My own career has been utterly dependent on his inventions and drive. He did not invent the internet or the mouse or Amazon or the smart phone, but without him none of it would have existed. It’s a race between himself and Steve Jobs who only rose to superstardom because he was fired from his own business and went to a telephone company. So there is luck there as well.
Now you have to wonder if you were 70, world famous, had no actual job and a lazy few hundred billion and your family were all billionaires, what you would do with the money?
It’s too bad his business partner the late Paul Allen(1953-2018) is not around. As a physicist. Perfect SAT score. He would have stopped the stupid stuff much earlier even though he also believed at the time what the press and the UN tells everyone even today. Boiling oceans.
But no one else has dedicated so much personal wealth to the fight against the world’s biggest killer, malaria. So I am personally pleased that he has seen the light that the physics is all wrong. And you can read he is trying to back away without admitting to the world or perhaps even to himself that he was wrong. Hard when you have published a book though. But at least he is now on the right path, focussing his immense personal wealth on improving this world which was always his intention. His achievements and continuing dedication to improving the lives of others are to be applauded.
44
TdeF, I can understand your statement if you were referring to a person from a non-technical background. OK BG was not trained in physics or engineering although mathematics is a classical discipline and his buddy certainly had the science background knowledge.
BG made his money by selling millions of licenses for his software that enabled him sit back and watch his accumulation account balloon to billions. By making so much money it would be possible to feel guilt and remorse that he coerced so many people to cough up hard earned money on an annual license fee. Very clever and good luck to him.
What I can’t forgive him for is that he jumped on a government/taxpayer subsidy scheme rather than do research into reality since he certainly had the wealth and resources to do so. Whoever convinced an inventor to believe in the doom and catastrophic prophesy of climate change is the real genius.
100
As I explained, the technical genius and physicist was Paul Allen. Bill Gates was a born entrepreneur and a very good programmer with a keen eye to business. You can resent the rich, but wealth happens. Like Henry Ford. or Thomas Edison. Or Elon Musk. Some great men were simply visionaries prepared to take a risk, but history often treats them very differently to the facts at the time. We look back and judge. And he was wrong about man made CO2 aka Global Warming aka Climate Change. A lot of good people are still fooled.
60
As for licences, consider the ultra rich musicians and actors, living on perpetual royalties. And the hundreds of millions who never made the grade. You can see that as greed and that life is unfair, or accept the reality that some people win the lottery. And while many people who live on royalties have enormous incomes, how many donate their own money to good causes?
31
“he coerced so many people to cough up hard earned money on an annual license fee”
That’s not true. You always have many options. If you can find something better and cheaper, go for it.
Like Music. Videos. Games. There was a time when musicians died poor. Most still do. Before royalties, the first performance of music was often the last. The music was public on the first night, so many performers lived on live performances only and had to compete with people who stole their work. Painters too. Graphic designers. Inventors. Even comedians.
Patents, copyright, trademarks have proven essential to protect inventors, authors, artists, creators, programmers and the public. And yes, you have to pay to use someone’s work. It’s not theft. But you generally have a choice, even a lot of choices.
These systems do not exist in China. Everything is stolen. Which is why the West is so inventive. Inventors, creators, artists, authors are paid.
40
I don’t condemn creative people for making money through royalties especially musicians – they have/had it tougher than most due to being ripped off by managers and recording companies.
The software licence costs in the earlier days of Microsoft were quite expensive for young families with kids. As a proportion of income it has dropped thank goodness. I have no love of China and their copy paste industrial (lack of) laws. The company I worked for paid the price of patent laws being ignored when doing business in China and the reasons for it are clear that the West encouraged China do take over the world’s manufacturing to supposedly ‘compete’ with others but that is another subject previously discussed on this forum.
I basically agree with you on most topics but BG’s guilt trip needs a BIG mea culpa before I cut him some slack.

If you want to understand the type of donkey we’ve had as an ambassador overseas, just watch Andrew Bolt try to interview this hunger striker in Canberra last year.
He’s threatening the Albo govt and the taxpayers and demands that we stop all coal, gas, iron ore etc ASAP because his teenage daughter hasn’t got a future and will die from his mythical, dangerous CC.
He’s obviously not the full quid and yet I thank Andrew to prove how deranged some of these donkeys can become and yet he has represented Australia overseas.
Again, just unbelievable but true.

GROK says, when I asked it to compare Lomborg and Gates current views:
“Bottom line:Lomborg (and Gates) are directionally correct.
Climate change is a serious, manageable risk—like malaria or road deaths—not an extinction event. The optimal path is accelerating clean energy innovation + targeted adaptation, not degrowth or geoengineering gambles. The real scandal? We spend $1T/year on climate but only $3B on agricultural R&D for heat-tolerant crops. That’s the misallocation Lomborg keeps hammering—and he’s right.”

Four million bucks for the new BOM website that performs like two horses pulling the same cart in opposite directions. The old BOM website worked fine. The new website amounts to a profligate waste of taxpayer money on a boondoggle, that according to The Sydney Morning Herald, even Albanese Government ministers like Chris Bowen complain about new BOM website saying that it needed to be fixed in order to regain lost public confidence:
Now I suppose more of our money will be spent by the BOM trying to make the dud, pig’s ear of a new site into a silk purse.

Here Linnea Lueken explains why co2 is almost fully saturated in our atmosphere today.
The first 20 ppm does a lot of warming but today at 425 ppm the extra warming is limited.
The graph on the video is accepted by all scientists today and is easy to understand. Just 2.5 minutes and should stop us wasting TRILLIONs more dollars forever on toxic, unreliable W & S.
And we can keep thousands of klms of our pristine environments for future generations. What’s not to like?

So why did Sri Lanka start to starve in less than 12 months when the loony govt tried to ban nitrogen fertilizers and sent the poor farmers broke?
Michael Shellenberger easily answers the questions, and even Dutch farmers had to take to the streets to protect their farms and lifestyles.
These loonies are barking mad and yet we tolerate their criminal behavior and hatred against farmers.

I guess the doom brigade now need a plausible exit strategy as their narrative falls apart. Previous fantasies like a global ice age and Peak Oil in the 70s were easily memory holed by just not talking about them and a little bit of mumbling at looking at shoes. This time massive finacial and human capital wastage has occured so a new strategy is required to declare victory and move on to something more workable. Watch the grifters for early clues to the next story.

Dear Bill, Can we have our money back please? You have plenty of it, after all.
He has more cents, we have more sense.

Who in their right mind would believe anything this evil man says? There might be a glimmer of hope for mankind as Kenya has cleared the way for Gates to be prosecuted for his part in the provision of a tetanus jab that also causes sterilisation of women. Accidental or deliberate?

For years I used to wonder who on earth spent so much money paying the people who created computer viruses, just as I then started wondering who was paying for all the pointless spam destroying email and forcing people onto US owned, controlled and monitored social media, just as I wondered who was paying to spam all the forum that were not owned by the US corpses … in RUSSIAN? No one is going to put Russian spam on an English forum except someone who dislikes Russians.
Then I worked out that micro$oft profited hugely from vast number of viruses that had destroyed independent software driving people to use “official” and eyewateringly overpriced micro$oft “$oftware”.
It’s an age old business tactic … create a problem which forces the customer to use your product. Create a virus/spam/trolls that force people onto your product.
Then I saw Gates getting into “vaccines”, where the obvious way to create profits was to create a never ending series of pandemics that could only be “solved” using his “vaccines”.

Whilst this has been lauded as a major development . His first truth is still totally wrong and data proves it.Deaths from climate events have fallen by 97% in the last 100 years. The world has never been safer in that regard and the ability to adapt means that any temperature change caused by humans has virtually no negative impact. Whether it is warming or not or whether CO2 is causing it or not is irrelevant when you have futureproofed future generations from whatever Mother Nature throws at it.
