  Science Demonstrations

  Answers to science questions
  • If you want an answer to a question you could ask New Scientist - Last Word. They answer questions on the back page of their magazine every week. They also post questions and answers on their web site. Check out the New Scientist website. Your question may have already been answered!
  • Look at Dr Karls website. It's a HUGE question and answer site. He's a master with information! His regular radio show attracts an awesome range of questions and his website attracts lots of answers (as well as Dr Karls own opinions and facts too!)
  • How Stuff Works: This site has really taken off. There are a whole range of authors answering questions from "How airbags work" to "How caffiene works". It's well put together and would appeal to kids as well as grown ups.

  Science News

  • Check out the New Scientist website. It's a brilliant source of information, updated weekly.
  • Discover magazine also has some interesting stories every month.
  • Nature Science Update contains science news from nature magazine. It's updated DAILY!
  • Science Update. An easy to read summary of some interesting topics. Put together by Access Excellence, intended for US teachers to use.
  • IgNobel prize winners. The people who've done the weirdest, or most inane research get an Ig-nobel prize for doing research that "should not be repeated"!
  • If you like anthropology, you'll love the Anthropology News site.

Longevity, Aging and Lifespans
  • Links to Lifespan and Aging websites
Joanne has a whole page devoted to these links to sites with life expectancy calculators, research on aging, longevity, genes, health and statistics.

Space and Astronomy
  • Nasa:   A big site with in-depth information about NASA programs. Space is full of amazing things, so there's lots here, but it is a big "Government" site, so unfortunately some of the site is written in proffessional-public-servant-speak, aka marketing gloss.
  • Liftoff!   If you have a burning urge to know where the shuttle or the space station is right now you can check this site out. You can also grab the earth and turn it around. Watch it spin it in space!

  Australian Info

  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
This is a brilliant source of data on almost anything Australian. Births, deaths, immigration, crime statistics, you name it.
  • GoldNerds The Nerds have the Numbers on Australian Gold Stocks. Look here to compare ASX listed Gold companies.
  • Ghostlands Tim Flannery writes about why Australian ecology is so special and how we should keep our limits in mind. It's not short and sweet though, it's a pretty indepth article.
Making Web Pages
  • Dr Web There are a stack of web pages on authoring, but this one is the best. Someone who tells you exactly, what you can and can't do, on which system and why you want to do it in the first place. Most sites are written by people who can only communicate with you if you have a 486 for a brain.
  • Web Developers Journal. This a is good despite a corny smugness that can make you wince. It's well laid out. Search here if you can't get the answers from Dr Web.
  • Mountaindragon A good site for real basics, but occasionally things won't work on both Explorer and Netscape. It's a well laid out list of tags, but no more. It's a simple quick reference site.
